Fortunately, I noticed (some items were at early stages of defrosting) and there were not that many frozen items in the freezer. So I was able to accommodate them in the fridge freezer.
This freezer has been very handy the past few years. I used to batch cook curries , soups and all sorts of food (desserts too!) and stash them in the freezer. But just as well that I no longer cook like that ever since I turned carnivore.
These days I can just pop into Jaya Grocer and buy fresh meat and then cook in the air fryer when I get home. Dinner done in a jiffy!
I could get the freezer repaired but I reckon it would be best to get a brand new one. The repair cost might not be worth it and it could break down again.
One of the items in the freezer was this piece of cod fish. I bought it and then forgot about it and then felt lazy to cook it. I don't do so well with fish, frying fish is not my favorite thing to do.
But I had to eat the cod at some point (there are another 3 pieces in the freezer) and today I reluctantly fried the fish.
Luckily I have this splatter guard that I bought last year. It comes in very handy when frying fish or eggs so that the pik...pik...piak...piak... won't result in oil getting onto the stove top (or my face).
After the fish was done, in the same oil I fried some chopped garlic and sliced ginger. Once fragrant I added some light soy sauce and sesame oil and poured the aromatic mix onto the fish.
Then I sat down to lunch. Oh my! The cod was so so good! The skin was very crispy and the flesh was so soft and smooth. It was also enhanced by the aromatic oil and fried garlic/ginger.
I also made this steamed egg and added a chopped up century egg. I was supposed to also add salted egg yolks but the two duck eggs I had in my pantry were no longer fresh. Too bad. This I will keep for dinner.
Yes, my missus bought that splatter guard too - very handy when deep frying stuff. I must go and look for a freezer like that - so far, I only saw those ice-boxes. We only have a fridge in the house and the freezer is so so so small, not enough to stuff stuff...especially when my missus is such a hoarder!
ReplyDeleteYes, that freezer is very useful. It is called a vertical freezer (better than a chest freezer) and you can buy during sales for a better deal. I am quite the hoarder too LOL!
DeleteThat is a very handy freezer to have especially when I need to stock up my fridge before CNY. I love cod fish especially when fried.
ReplyDeleteCod fish is also delicious steamed but since mine has been in the freezer for a long time, I reckon fried is better.
DeleteYour cod fish dish looks so very tasty! Yums! ๐๐๐๐
ReplyDeleteThanks, I hope to have the same thing again soon.
DeleteThe way you said it, "I had to eat the cod at some point"....well, you can always send to me...lol! I love cod...but it's too expensive a fish to eat. Then you cooked it...and declared it was so so good. Isn't cod always good? Now that you don't do batch cooking anymore, you may not even need to buy a replacement stand-alone freezer...unless you're still doing food prep for your lahling for his meals! ;)
ReplyDeletehah..hah..hah... Oh ya, cod is always good! The last time I had it was at the restaurant many years ago. Then every time I see it at the supermarket, I couldn't bring myself to buy it. I am still contemplating getting a freezer because it is handy for storing frozen meat and things like bone broth. I might batch cook again - perhaps soups and stews. Or if I need to supply cooked food for my parents.
DeleteAiyo, you're so hardworking to update your blog during CNY, I'm not even have the courage to write anything yet till today, haha!
ReplyDeleteI was quite free that's why I have time to update hee..hee..
