PaperKite Chicken & Beer, Damansara Utama

Oh dear, dear. I had beer for lunch. ***Pengsan***

Many weeks ago, I passed by this newly renovated shoplot with a very eye catching yellow color.

What I could see on the signboard was the name PaperKite and in bold letters CHICKEN & BEER.

And then a week ago, this huge poster appeared.

THE BEST TASTING CB IN TOWN and the opening date 12.12.

Well, that piqued my interest. Beer is something I have given up a long time ago.
Alcohol is no good for the liver and brain, you hear me?

Fried chicken? Well, I haven't had that either for a long time (but I have had other deep fried stuff during my Saturday lunches with my mum and brother).

So what do I do?

That's right. Step right in and eat and drink what I shouldn't be eating and drinking. Just one time won't kill me, right? Right.

Let's look at the menu.

This should please fried chicken fans - Golden Crispy, Red Hot, Chicken Chop and even Curry Rice, Indomie, burger, waffles, chicken poppers, wings and more.

And as for the beverages, the star of the show here is their PaperKite award winning beers. Winning gold at the World Beer Awards 2024 is a respectable achievement.

Not to worry if you don't drink beer because they have non-alcoholic beverages. There are also sides and desserts (something that no longer interest me).

So I placed my order for the CB Golden Crispy and wait for it ... Pale Ale. I mean, they don't serve coffee here, so what do you expect me to do? wahahahaha!!!!

While waiting for my order, I looked around. They have more seating upstairs.

The predominant color here is orange, hence the orangey hues in my photos. On the table are plastic plates, a box of serviettes, a container for chicken bones, cutleries and a box of gloves.

Ah! Plus point. They serve you water on the house (with choice for warm or ice)

This here is the Pale Ale which is described as "An easy going pale ale with floral, grapefruit and peach aromas from the Citra hops. This ale has a refreshing and smooth mouthfeel".

I did not drink this beer immediately because alcohol on an empty stomach will send me reeling. So I waited to eat first. The fried chicken took quite a while to be served.

As I waited, more and more people stepped inside the restaurant. Wonderful. I always want new restaurants to do well.

Finally. Two pieces of fried chicken - drumstick and thigh, fries, coleslaw and two containers of dry spices (which the server said to sprinkle on the chicken).

Ok, honest review. The fried chicken was served piping hot, was well marinated but I find it a bit dry (over fried). My ideal fried chicken is crispy on the outside and tender and juicy inside.

The two dry spices - one spicy hot and the other aromatic was not a good idea to me because it had the taste of raw spices and was overpowering. But that's my opinion, others may not agree.

The fries are regular fries that you would expect at fast food outlets and so was the coleslaw.

All in all, the fried chicken is not for me. Perhaps the wings or poppers would fare better.

Now, the Pale Ale, that was a different story. I am not a drinker though I can tell you that between wine and beer, I prefer beer (back in my young days, I drank red wine/beer on Chinese New Year).

After I had eaten some food, I took a sip of the beer. Wow. I found it very pleasing. And I sipped some more. I don't know how to describe the taste of this beer except to say that it is head and shoulders better than Carlsberg wahahaha!! Sorry.

Side story. As I was halfway through with my meal, I heard an ear piercing scream behind me. And then the sound of glass crashing to the floor. It happened to the table occupied by a group of leng luis. Then I saw the server scrambling to sweep up broken glass.

Anyway.

Come here for the beer. If you are not so fussy about fried chicken, you will be happy (especially after you drink a lot of beer hah..hah...).

I suspect this place may be popular in the evenings among drinkers, in particular beer drinkers who are fans of PaperKite's award winning beers. Those who are not yet fans will become fans, of that I am confident (because I am one now).

As for me, I am glad I visited and enjoyed the beer. Who knows I might come back for some minum minum especially after a stressful day at the office. LOL!

  1. This is one place I thought you wouldn't step in alone...and that's because when it's a drinking place, people comes in groups to drink...lol! From the looks of the fried chicken, I was already suspecting it could be over-fried. I would be of the same opinion as you when it comes to dry spices, I don't like that raw taste. Don't think many will like a dry spice dip, they should use a more common chilli dip that many more would appreciate.

Ah, I see you're having craft beer for the first time. Craft beer is "atas" beer, so it definitely tastes better (cost a lot more too) than regular, mass--produced beer. This is apparently locally made craft beer (from Penang). P/S: The lengluis already drunk so early, is it? Wuahahahaha! :D

    1. Well, I saw it as a fried chicken place, much like walking into KFC LOL! Yeah, a spicy sauce or dip would be better. Oh, the fried chicken looked a bit burnt on Sean's blog hah..hah...

Yes, my first craft beer and I was so impressed. I reckon one of the leng lui saw that an accident was going to happen, hence the scream LOL!

  2. Ah, thank you for having a cheat day to bring us this review of chicken and beer. I used to drink beers, especially lager and cider when in UK. Now I have forgotten when was the last time I drank beer. Why the scream before the glass break? I wonder 🤔 what is the story there.

  4. I used to drink alcohol during my younger and wilder days of partying. There was this drink called Tequila Pop which I found it fun to drink.

    1. I might have tasted Tequilla on my birthday some years ago when my partner purposely ordered an alcoholic drink for me at Chilis. I didn't like the taste >.<

  5. Haha, hubby and I were guessing what does CB means yesterday when we were there for dinner, until hubby saw the small wording below the banner - chicken & beer. I guess it was Chicken Burger but I'm wrong. LOL
Carlsberg or Tiger aren't my choice if I want to drink beer (I prefer wines anytime), I found them a bit bitter to my liking.
