I am a sucker for sandwiches. Especially those pretty Wanpaku Sando sandwiches. They are thick and eye catching and I simply cannot resist.
So I broke the rules again to try this sandwich cafe - Mun-Chi (next door to The Ship).
I walked over at slightly past 12:00pm and when I entered the premises, one gentleman was waiting for his takeaway order while at another table, three customers were waiting for their dine-in orders.
So I went to the counter (you can also order via QR code) to order the Australian Beef and a Latte. Since they have a set lunch promotion (just pay for the sandwich, drink and hashbrown is free), my meal came with a hashbrown.
I noted on the receipt that my coffee (latte) was itemized as "long black add milk" which was RM2.00 extra meaning I paid RM20.90 (RM18.90 + RM2.00).
Finally (it was quite a wait) the orders to the table with three diners came slowly while the gentleman received his packed order.
I understand that this type of sandwich is a pain to make. It takes time and some skills. Oh ya, I have made these sandwiches before and I can tell you that I would gladly pay someone else to prepare them for me.
I waited forever some 17 minutes and then noted that the couple (who came later than I did) were served their sandwich first. Now, one of my pet peeves at a restaurant is people who came after me being served first.
So I stood up to remind the server about my order and she waved at me to signal that my order was coming.
The beef is a patty (like a burger) and tasted very beefy. And then there is a fried egg, shredded purple cabbage and lettuce with some mayo. The bread is lightly toasted. I was happy with my sandwich.
I removed the lid from the coffee cup (after sipping) because I find it difficult to drink from the sippy thingy. The coffee is ordinary, don't expect cafe quality.
Overall, with the exception of the waiting time (I wonder how they cope on busy days) and quality of coffee, I would say that the sandwich though not extraordinary, is pretty decent and if you are fan of sandwiches, it is worth dropping by.
Good morning! I don't like it too when people who came after me were served first. I would voice up too. I love to eat hash brown as I love potatoes. Thanks for the review. The interior looks cosy and comfortable.
ReplyDeleteGood morning! I love sandwich cafes and there might be another visit in the future.
DeleteAh, their sandwiches remind me of Christine's bakery bagel sandwiches which I ate quite a number during the pandemic. Now after pandemic, not eating them as I am sharing food with spouse now and he doesn't eat sandwiches that much. If got chance I go uptown, I may try this. Thanks for the review. Have a good weekend π π
ReplyDeleteHappy winter solstice today!
Eating any tong Yuen?
Oh no, no tong yuen for me - all sugar and carbs LOL!
DeleteHaha...you broke the rules for a lot of bread...and even more vegetables (so thick)! :D But a sandwich, hashbrown + coffee at that price is worth it. That hashbrown is shaped like those (Simplot) frozen ones I used to buy.
ReplyDeleteIndeed! I love bread and sandwiches are my weakness hee...hee...
DeleteI had 5 tang yuan today which my mom prepared for Winter Solstice Day. Mostly are peanut fillings.
ReplyDeleteNice! The ones with peanut fillings are so special and tasty!
DeleteI ain't a fan of sandwiches but I don't mind having it when don't feel like having rice or noodle. But I do like taking crispy hash brown.
ReplyDeleteYou will like the hashbrown as it is very crispy.
DeleteI'm not a sandwich person, but prettily prepared sandwich like this is quite irresistible.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I couldn't resist LOL!
