Yan Wo Thai, Aman Suria Damansara

Last Saturday, instead of heading to Yan Wo Seafood Restaurant, we made a pit stop at Yan Wo Thai instead.

Before that, as usual, we visited dad at the nursing home. My other brother showed up with his son (on holiday from Australia).

So we let the young man spend time with his grandpa and grandma while we three siblings sat outside for a chat.

This was the Christmas tree at the siting room.

Soon it was time to go and as usual, my other brother had plans with his family and did not join us.

Yan Wo Thai is located at the same row of shophouse as Yan Wo Seafood. While Yan Wo Seafood is situated right at the end of the row, Yan Wo Thai is the third shop from the front end.

The signboard is not prominent, as you can see above and can be easily missed.

The first thing that caught my eye was this wooden floorboard leading to the restaurant which has a rustic look but is a hazard for seniors.

It is uneven and may cause stumbling if one is not careful. I hung on to my mum to ensure her safety as she has the tendency to stumble and lose her balance when negotiating uneven ground.

The dining space is small and quite cramped with low lighting.

Once seated, we took our time to check the menu. These were what we had.

For drinks, my brother chose an iced green tea that had other added ingredients (like mint, milk and sugar). Mum followed suit while I stuck to iced water (which was pandan flavored).

Two orders of rice, one for mum and one for my brother. I had none.

This is mango salad which was very fragrant and flavorful from lots of lime juice. It was sweet to balance the tartness of the lime and young mango. I found it a tad too sweet but enjoyed this salad nevertheless.

The stir fried paku was delicious. It had lots of wok hei and was crunchy and succulent. Initially we wanted to order the Melindjo leaves (my brother was craving for it) but we were informed that due to rain and floods in Thailand, this vegetable has not been available for the past two weeks.

This dish is village chicken deep fried and then stir fried with an aromatic spice paste. It was very fragrant with generous amount of kaffir lime leaves and very spicy from the red chilies. I loved this dish a lot.

This is one whole fish, filleted, deep fried and topped with sliced onions, lemongrass and cili padi with a sweet lime sauce (akin to the mango salad dressing). It was also very tasty and very much to our liking.

This was what was left of the chicken dish (can't remember who took the last piece hah...hah...) and mum and I were saying that it would be nice to add rice to soak up the chap hee...hee...

My brother took care of the crispy fish bones which still had plenty of flesh on them.

The prices here are on the premium side (as with most Thai restaurants) and portion sizes are on the conservative side. But that won't stop us from another visit since the food is of good quality.

At the loo while waiting for mum, I spotted these wall decorations which turned out to be the backsides of two elephants. How apt! LOL!

Well, I am happy to report that I did not suffer any side effects from this meal - not thirsty and no drop in energy level. Yay! I made sure to eat less and let my mum and brother enjoy the lion's share.

    1. We couldn't find green curry on the menu, perhaps we missed it. Next visit I will study the menu properly.

  3. Looks like most of the dishes you ordered were those with sour & sweet flavours which your family clearly enjoys. Who wouldn't...it surely opens up one's apettite! ;) That Thai-style fish, deep fried until crispy with sourish sweet flavours can now even been enjoyed at tai chow places who have since replicated the dish...lol (I think you've had some of these Thai-flavoured dishes at Yan Wo Seafood before if memory serves me right). P/S: Btw, is Yan Wo Thai & Yan Wo Seafood related to one another?

  6. One will get worried if the food we consume will cause us to feel a drop in energy level or feel lethargic or even having the runs to the toilet.

  7. i'm wondering if this is related to Yan Wo restaurant that you frequented previously...I like Thai dishes, especially the sour & spicy ones but my parents couldn't take it....hence we seldom go for Thai food.

  8. The dishes you ordered certainly need rice to go with them (this apply to most of the Thai dishes), although I always skip rice but when comes to Thai food, I can't >_<

    1. Ya, I know. Rice with these dishes is ideal as it should be. But I will overeat >.<
