Year End Blues

It's the end of the year already. So fast, right? Soon 2025 will be upon us. Haiz!

I don't really have anything to look forward to in 2025 but me and you must remain positive. Betul tak? hah..hah... Yes, we must always look on the bright side and count our blessings.

I am having some year end blues - I hurt my back twice. Nope, I did not get it by attempting to carry heavy things or attempting any fancy moves or anything like that.

The first one happened some 3 weeks ago, an old injury at the spot where I had a slipped/herniated disc. The disc must have bulged out and although I did not have massive pain like before, it was more of a sciatic incident where the nerve sends signals down my left thigh. Not painful but uncomfortable.

That has somewhat resolved but now I am having pain on the right side of my back (since Saturday evening). It hurts when I move at certain angles but I know this will resolve by itself given time.

How did that happen? I did not do anything physical to trigger this injury and I believe it is caused by inflammation (food related). Like what happened to me the morning after my third Covid vaccination

So I am back to eating properly (after fried chicken and beer on Friday and delicious restaurant fare on Saturday).

I think I can't handle too much restaurant food, all those deep fried stuff and sauces. In fact on Saturday after lunch I was extremely thirsty and fatigued.

This here are two steaks that I took out to cook to clear my freezer.

And the last two duck eggs from the fridge.

Oh, I added some caramelized onions.

Seasoning is just salt and pepper. So good!

This was one of my dinners last week.

This was from a previous Sunday where I had a burger patty (last piece from the freezer), three eggs and an assortment of fermented veggies.

This plate does look a bit festive due to the colors.

This is my "stir fried minced beef with eggs" (aka murdered omelette) hah..hah...hah...

Ah! I saw this at Aeon. These things come out already when Christmas isn't even over yet.

Is anyone frying ngaku chips? hee..hee... Not me for sure.

Last Friday, I spotted this little kitty on my way to PaperKite. I tried to coax it to come out from under the car (of course it ran away).

The irrational me wanted to kidnap this kittie home. But I snapped out of it when I reminded myself of the litter box chores and food cost. Bye darling!

My Poodie pattotie has found a comfy spot for herself.

This is where she hangs out. Someone once said that cats are scammers. They look at you with their big eyes and you fall in love with them only to become their slaves LOL!

You tell me, how to resist?

Well, here's to eating clean(er) in 2025. That is my new year resolution. And today I am fasting to clean out the toxins.

  2. You are not alone PH. I can understand your pain. One week ago I had De Quervain's Tenosynovities. It is a painful condition that affects the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist. Symptoms are pain, swelling or tenderness near the base of the thumb. Persons with DQT have difficulty gripping objects and performing daily activities as the pain may worsen with any thumb and wrist movements especially with grasping, twisting and lifting actions.

It occurs due to the houseworks which I did such as handwashing clothes and drying clothes by twisting. Though it is not super painful but it makes me feel uncomfortable and causes inconvenience to my daily life.

I hope that it will go away by itself when I try to rest my left hand by not doing too vigorous houseworks. Meanwhile I will take the painkiller which also helps to relax my muscles and use ice to ease my muscles pain.

Hope your pain will go away just like I hope my pain will go away too. Keep us updated!

    1. Oh dear! I hope that you are recovering well. I did not know about De Quervain's Tenosynovities until you mentioned it. Wah, you handwash your clothes instead of using washing machine. Honestly, handwash is cleaner in my opinion but takes a lot of effort. I used to handwash my clothes too but when I moved into my own home, I got a washing machine and now I am lazy to wash clothes by hand. LOL! My back is recovering well and I wish you a seedy recovery.

    2. Only part of my clothes I handwash. As for pyjamas, bath towels, bedsheets, I use washing machine to wash.

  4. Yes, we should stay positive and count our blessings. By taking the time to reflect on the positive aspects of our life, we can shift our focus away from negativity and cultivate a more positive and grateful outlook. Counting our blessings can also help us develop a greater sense of perspective and appreciation for the people, experiences and things in our life.

  5. Your steak on the blue plate is from a different seller from the white plate? Coz the white plate looks a lot juicier. That kitten you thought of kidnapping home is exactly like the stray that has ventured to my house (which I'm feeding now). Oh dear, how Poodie has grown (if you didn't say, I thought that was the mama cat). Sorry to hear your back pain flaring up again. Lately, I've been experiencing back shoulder pain myself. Not sure what's the cause but it's naggingly uncomfortable even though it's not very painful (just like you and Libby is experiencing). Like Libby I also take some meds to relieve the muscle pain but it just won't go away completely (some days are better than others). Haiz, part & parcel of growing old!

    1. The steak is from the same seller, Feast Market. Oh, you still have a part time pet. That's good. That kittie was very cute and my heart melts every time I see a kittie. Haiz! I had back shoulder pain a few weeks ago. Don't know what triggered it and rather unusual. My brother previously recommended me pain killers (muscle relaxant) for my back but I don't take it because if I don't feel the pain, I might injure myself further. I am on the mend and hope you are too.
