Do you want to listen to an old story? Once in a while, I will dig out a tale from my auntie treasure chest to share. Whether you like it or not. Hah!
Many years ago (OK, like 30 years ago) when I was a sweet young thing (yup, all aunties start out as sweet young things), my aunt tried to match make me with the nephew of her friend. Hah! Are you all ears now?!
The young man in question was an architect (good catch) just graduated from a university in the US of A (lagi confirm good catch). His father owned an engineering firm and was reportedly wealthy (OK, siap! Confirm habis this is a VERY good catch).

Now, let me set this straight. I do not, repeat I DO NOT, like the idea of being set up. I hate it! The moment I get the hint that I'm being set up, I shut down. Totally. No chance. (chewah, jual mahal plak).
But my aunt was very persistent. And she was very optimistic, to the point where she was already hearing the faint tinkling of wedding bells. "When you marry so-and-so, you needn't have to worry. His parents will buy you people a house". Hello??? I haven't even met the guy yet for heck's sake!
Due to the constant haranguing about how important it is to marry well, I gave in. Just to give her and myself the satisfaction that this will not work. So a meeting was set up between my aunt, me, the guy and his aunt. We met for lunch at a club.
Since I had already shut down and was very negative about the whole thing, the guy did not make much of an impression on me. Don't get me wrong. He was a nice person, decent looking and well brought up. Had we met under different circumstances....nah.....he wasn't my type.
The plan was for him to send me home but I refused to follow his car. My excuse, I wanted to go shopping with my aunt (and his aunt in tow). I wasn't going to give the ladies a chance to yak and start hallucinating about the wedding. No sireee...
Well, I did go out with the guy. Nothing happened because my force field was up the whole time. One day in the car, he was searching for a Bryan Adams song (Everything I Do I Do It For You).
You remember that song? Sappiest song ever. Problem was, he was looking for it in a Def Leppard cassette (mine). Fail. Epic fail. If a girl likes heavy metal and you go play Everything I Do I Do It For You, very sorry.
I had to end it by turning the guy down a few times. He got the message and never called back. Don't you worry about him. He eventually met his match and last I heard, they have a few kids.
Me? I'm as happy as a lark. I'm happy the way I am. I'm happy with the man I eventually met.
Here, let me share with you the response that a super KPC auntie (not me lah) got when she tried to match make a reluctant young man.
The screenshot is hilarious!
ReplyDeletehah..hah.. it is!
DeleteWah, your photos of you when young are very adorable! Thanks for the entertaining story. Poor young man, finally got the message after asking you out a few times
ReplyDeleteThanks hee..hee... I just needed to get the story off my chest!
DeleteYou were so pretty and cute when you were little. Now still adorable!!
ReplyDeleteI also had so many headaches in my early 20s but I better not sound like a brag here. ๐๐๐๐๐๐
Aiyo thank you, thank you! You must share you story one day OK? LOL!
DeleteYes, I agree 100%....all aunties start out as SYTs....kekeke! ;) My, you still have all these photos from when you're young (mine don't all went where already). The first photo is the cutest you! Try putting a kid on a chair for them to stay still for their photo to be taken these days successfully. Those days we were so obedient...more like so "stupid" according to the young now...wakakakaka!
ReplyDeleteAs for your cerita lama, wah...your memory is still so vivid...even down to the song (I can't remember stories from so long ago)! :O I didn't know "dates" then have to be chaperoned then...lol!
hah..hah.. we are now sweet old things! Those photos were scanned by my brother from our late grandma's photo albums. Ah, thanks for the compliment! I was amazed at how cute I was wahahahaha!!!
DeleteWell, chaperoned on the first meet up. What an experience and how exasperating. LOL!
