Naughty #5 : Chicken Rice @ Restoran Yu Yiee, Damansara Jaya

Ah! Restoran Yu Yiee was a kopitiam I frequented back in the late 1980's and early 1990's when I was renting a room at Damansara Jaya.

I consider that period of my life the "dark days" because I was forced to work at a job I was not trained for (and disliked). I was very unhappy, angry and frustrated for being denied (through the act of God, yes, always blame God) the opportunity to pursue post-graduate studies in my area of interest.

That plus living in a rented room (for 10 years) did not make things any better for me. Anyway, those days are over and I have made peace (well, maybe not 100%) with the unfortunate circumstances and decisions that were made for me.

Sorry, I digress. Now back to chicken rice.

When my dad was still able bodied, he used to walk (when he and mum came down from Kuala Terengganu for his medical checkup) from my brother's house to Yu Yiee to tapau chicken rice.

Dad also loved to merayau-rayau (walkabout) around Atria and visit the bank in the vicinity to chat up the bank officers hah..hah..hah... Well, those were the days.

So I dropped by one day for a bout of nostalgia. I placed my standard order of chicken rice with drumstick, siew yoke and char siew (RM12.00).

And not forgetting a glass of Kopi O Ais Kosong (RM2.60). The Kopi O was pretty decent.

The main focus for me is always the meat.

It was all good, in particular I thought the char siew was outstanding (by my standards lah).

And among the previous two chicken rice that I tried, this one had the most fragrant rice which made this the better chicken rice among the three.

If I had a future craving for chicken rice, this is the one I would go for.

As I was enjoying my chicken rice, I noticed this stall run by an uncle.

Upon closer scrutiny, this is a bak kut teh stall.

Famous, eh?

Well, maybe one day I will try this.

***Kitten Updates***

One of the places the kitties like to hangout is the roof of the cage.

My Poodie pattotie when she is not in the flower pot, she will be here (or at the shoe cabinet).

Hello!

But sometimes, the three of them will go next door. No matter how comfy home is, they will want to explore other people's house.

Tutu is (almost) everyone's favorite.

Among some of the things I have to put up with is the kittens dashing into my house. Here is Ah Boi doing inspection.

I also have to put up with this. Haiz!

  1. Goodness!! You could stay in a rented room for 10 long years. I would have rented a house and sublet the rooms out for profits. That is me! ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜
I will drive to check out this coffee shop again.

    1. Not that easy to sub-let. If the sub-tenants don't pay rent on time, I will be trouble! Anyway, I am glad those days are over.

  2. The roasted pork looks good to me, not too fat and too thin either. Price is reasonable considering the meat portion was adequate for a plate of rice... yummsss...
    Kitten giving mama a hug?

You are a tough and strong person to persevere through your 10 years of dark days. I am sure many people could learn from you. ๐Ÿ’ช

  7. For the chicken rice stall to have stood the test of time (from the 80s) is testimony that their chicken rice is indeed delicious. Yeah, the meats certainly looked better than the one in your previous post.

    1. It might not be the same vendor. They are doing pretty well since the chicken rice is good,
