Breaking A 40 Hour Fast

I didn't plan to fast but it just happened. Sunday I finished my last meal at 6:30pm.

Then Monday, somehow I didn't feel hungry at lunch time. So I thought, OK, I'll eat dinner later. Come evening I was still not that hungry.

So I thought, hmmm... why not I just skip my meal all together. Yes, I did feel some hunger but not enough to make me leave the sofa (hah..hah...) to fix something. So I did not eat at all on Monday.

Come Tuesday, I did feel hunger late morning. So I took out a piece of steak that was defrosting in the fridge. Let it stand to room temperature for about an hour.

Cooked it the cast iron pan.

Then I fried a tray of 6 eggs. Not that I was going to eat all 6 but might as well fry the whole lot to keep some in the fridge.

Lunch done. A piece of steak, two eggs, kimchi and sauerkraut.

I broke my fast at 11:00am.

After the steak and eggs, I had some kefir a bit later.

I defrosted a packet of salmon bones in the fridge thinking that I would have that for dinner. But my steak and eggs filled me up so well that I was not hungry in the evening.

So I ended up having only one meal yesterday. So this evening it will be salmon bones for dinner.

  1. Wow you are eating very healthy. Good job. My friend used to tell me you will get used to it once you started fasting. She is a full time vegetarian and she fasts for religious reasons.

    1. I am getting back into fasting again after a long break in 2023. In 2024 I couldn't fast as well as I did in 2022. So now getting back into the fasting groove!

  2. Does the metabolism tank when you fast that long?

    1. Actually, no. From what I learnt (there are lots of podcasts on fasting on Youtube) there is some point where the metabolism actually revs up. You can search for Dr Pradip Jamnadas and Dr Jason Fung.

  4. Congrats for achieving a 40-hour fast (even longer than the Muslims fast!). Not something I can even attempt because of the way my body reacts when a meal is skipped.
