Carb Day #6 : Village Park Restaurant, Damansara Utama - No Time Is A Good Time

The other day after coming back from the Hari Raya break, I walked around the Damansara Uptown Square.

I passed by Village Park Restaurant. Yes, that incredibly popular nasi lemak place.

Where people are willing to queue up as if there is no tomorrow.

Why, ah?

So this warrants some investigation.

Carb quota be damned. This very morning on my way to the office, I had to drop by. It looked all benign from afar.

It was barely 9:00am and the breakfast crowd was just getting started or they were there damn early.

Mind you, there is another room right next to this one and it was also filled to the brim. I guess I was lucky to share a table (or rather it was two tables placed side by side, so we did not have to face each other) with a pretty girl.

If you are not familiar, here you basically get yourself seated (or a server will assist you to find a seat) and you wait for your order to be taken. If nobody notices you, just wave your hand like crazy and they will come.

I ordered the nasi lemak with ayam goreng and a kopi O ais kosong. The servers here work at a frantic speed as speed and efficiency is the name of the game.

It's amazing the number of customers who show up and Village Park has maintained this level of patronage for as long as I can remember.

My plate of nasi lemak was served a short while later after I see servers scurrying at a frantic pace bringing plates upon plates of nasi lemak to the many tables.

The first thing I noted was that the rice was very fragrant and good even on its own. The sambal is what nasi lemak sambal should be. However, I found the chicken a bit over fried. The meat was on the soft side (as if it had been boiled) but overall OK lah.

The kopi O was very much to my liking, very kaw and potent.

These were the food and drink order chits which I brought to the cash counter for payment.

I did not see anyone use e-wallet and I later saw a sign at the counter which said "strictly cash only".

My breakfast cost me RM17.40. Curiosity satisfied, I can now stand by what I said - that other place (as well as this one) can give this place a run for their money.

But with that said, let the crowd continue to flock here and stay away from my favorite places hah..hah..hah...

    1. That wasn't the reason. I simply had to gauge for myself why people are willing to queue up to get into Village Park. LOL!

  2. Hah, they are still having very good business 👍😊
I guess it is because the price is very reasonable for that big chicken leg.
I don't think I will visit here again since my last visit on 3sep2024.
Now I aim to visit the two as good places you listed here for their nasi lemak. Thank you for the recommendation. 👍😊

    1. I won't be going back again since the nasi lemak is good but not so awesome that it warrants going through a queue and the crowd.

  3. There are also a few stalls in my neighbourhood which do not accept digital payments. They have a signage that says "My boss only loves cash." LOL !!

    1. LOL! I guess accounting for cash is much easier than tracking on the various e-wallet platforms.

    2. Yes you are right. I guess they rather focus their efforts on cooking good food rather than spend their energy on juggling the digital payments.

    3. It can be a hassle having to tally the e-wallet taking as well as accounting for the service charges imposed by those platforms. Cash is straight forward and simple.

  4. Wow, they're still packing in the crowds after so many years! O_o I remember them for their ayam goreng berempah first & foremost. I guess cooking for a super large crowd, fast & furious, the standard is bound to drop. I've not been there for years and looking at the queue, I guess I won't be anytime soon + my husband really hates it when the restaurants don't keep up with the times and accept e-wallet (only the super well-known places can get away with that).

    1. They have a fantastic track record and not even the pandemic could make a dent to their popularity. I won't be returning anytime soon either, once is enough LOL!

    1. Ah, yes, I forgot about the tourists. I may not have spotted them since I saw mostly locals.
