Birthday Lunch

My brother's birthday was in March but we celebrated last Saturday.

It was mum's treat and she requested that we go to Marta's Kitchen. Clearly mum was impressed with what we had when we last visited during Chinese New Year.

Mum told us "No more Japanese restaurants!". Well, she was not impressed when we went to  Jyu Raku muahahaha!!!. So Spanish it was.

As usual, my brother dropped mum and I at the entrance. So we two ladies got us a table while waiting for him to park the car.

As soon as my brother joined us, we ordered. All three of us had the Flat White with double shots each. Woohoo!

For tapas, these were what we had.

Potato Salad. I'm afraid we found this salad unremarkable. It was dry and lacking in seasoning. The crackers were plain and did not help make this potato salad any better.

So much for wanting to try new items. We happen to love potato salad and I would say one of the best would be The Butcher's Table's. In fact mum's potato salad is also really good too. Opps! I digress.

We loved these Pan Fried Mushrooms, garlicky and flavorful.

The mushrooms were served with a basket of crusty bread.

Our all time favorite is the Gambas Al Ajilo.

Prawns in olive oil and garlic chips. So good! It was also served with bread, so we had two doses of carbs LOL!

And then, what we were looking forward to, the BBQ Pork Ribs.

The server appeared a bit shocked when we asked for a full rack. He said, half rack should suffice. But we assured him that we were able to demolish eat the full rack.

When the ribs were served, the server remarked that we can tapau if we were not able to finish the ribs. Yeah, right hah..hah... Don't underestimate us!

The ribs were as good as we remembered. Well marinated, tender and juicy. Though there were some cartilage which I would usually chew but I was having some issue with my lower right molar (root canal) so I had to abandon the collagen supply hah..hah... My dentist did implore me - don't chew bones!!!

All of us enjoyed the ribs to the max.

See. No tapau. Well, that was an awesome lunch with many thanks to mum!

  1. Hmmm, prawns served with breads. Don't think I would be able to accept that.

  3. The potato salad looks like a compacted cube of potato & chopped egg with a few biscuits stuck on top...certainly a rendition I've not seen before. With a lack of sauce, I can 'feel' just how dry & dense that bite would be. The button mushrooms was a dish I remembered being very juicy & tasty. Ah, since this was a request from mom (and the fact she 'belanja'), I guess you have to go with her wish, otherwise you & your brother could try the other Spanish place (that I thought is better) for something different.

  4. Oh, I would definitely order the prawn dish. 😋 Red kettle has a similar prawn dish with sourdough bread.
Ah, my molar that broke is also a molar with root canal and I didn't bite any bones yet it still broke 😭
🤞 Hope all is well with your molar 🙏
