A Kopitiam Shock

I ventured out to Damansara Kim to eat at Restoran Wan Shoon.

I decided to do my "chicken-rice-no-rice" stunt at Fatt Kee Soy Sauce Chicken expecting to be charged the same price as the chicken rice with drumstick-char siew-siew yoke combo of RM13.50 (like what I experienced at other kopitiam chicken rice stalls).

Nope. It cost me RM20.00. I terkejut a bit and after I paid, it occurred to me that it might be a slightly bigger portion. You know, the portion when people order extras to go with their normal order for sharing among two persons. So I took a table and waited for my order.

When my meal was served I took a good look at it. Then later I checked with my old photos and yes, there were a few more pieces of char siew and siew yoke on the plate.

So I guess RM20.00 is fair.

It's still cheaper compared to chicken rice/roasted meat restaurants.

The Kopi C at Restoran Wan Shoon (RM3.50) is the best! I had a few sips and took this back with me to the office.

***Belle Belle Updates***

Let's take a short break from the kittens.

These photos of Belle Belle and Girl were from 2023.

Belle Belle had always been hostile towards Kittie Kat and bullied her at every opportunity. The younger cat always retreated and never fought back.

After Kittie Kat gave birth to the kittens in February 2024, mother cat became very aggressive towards Belle Belle. I had never seen Kittie Kat behave like that before.

As a result of that, Belle Belle who had always been the fierce aggressive one, retreated and did not fight back. She did not even have the courage to enter the gate. I find her cowering in Kittie Kat's presence (even when she was quite a distance away).

When it came to feeding time, I have to put Belle Belle's plate near the gate and she would come inside (very cautious at all times) and feed. Then she leaves.

I have many times carried Belle Belle into the compound but the old girl would growl and act all grumpy and hostile at Kittie Kat (even though Kittie Kat did not react towards her) and then run away.

Strangely (or perhaps not that surprising) Kittie Kat does not behave like that with Girl (who had been accepting and friendly towards her since Kitties Kat's arrival to my home last year). Girl can come near her and even her kittens and there would not be any hostile reaction.

Sadly, Belle Belle has decided not to come home anymore. She is still around and hangs out at a house a few doors way from mine. She looks healthy and I believe someone is giving her food.

This photo make me sad, looking at Belle Belle giving Girl a peck at the top of her head. Ah well, such is life.

  1. This story makes me sad. No wonder there were no photos of Belle2 lately. That's the thing with cats, some just don't get along (like humans too) from the onset (which we can't explain). Your partner must be heartbroken since Belle2 is his favourite. I'm just thinking what if your neighbour stops feeding her...then she'll go from having a foreever home to becoming a street cat all over again (and that saddens me). Perhaps you can keep Belle2 indoor until such time they get accustomed to one another? You gained 3 cats but lost one instead (one that you've nurtured and develop a bond with). T_T

That leads me to the story of the stray ginger male (the one me and my neighbour have been feeding). There's this very aggressive male cat that always chooses to get into a fight with him and will kacau him even if the ginger cat is minding his own business and not looking for a fight (he purposely makes it his mission to look for him daily). The aggressive male cat scares the shit out of the ginger cat...literally. The ginger cat will poop and pee whenever they fight...me and my neighbour had to deal with the many "accidents" in our porch. I read that cats do that as a defense mechanism while some are genuinely so scared that they loose control of their bladder or bowel and eliminate right there. He's suffering from so much stress that he's not eating and not grooming (and is so frail looking from when I first saw him)...haiz.

As for your chicken rice-no rice, I think RM20 is for a 2-persons portion (they will think you're ordering it as a side dish for sharing). In future, you can state you want a 1-pax portion (but the portion will be smaller though).

    1. Kris : Oh dear, I feel so sorry for the stray ginger male. It's terrible that there is such a cruel bully who targets the poor thing. As for Belle Belle, I will keep an eye on her.

    1. Well, I tried my best but Belle Belle's own attitude caused this problem.

  3. Here, some roast meat stalls will ask me, no rice so how much you want? Rm10, 15 or 20 ? After I have stated the price I want to pay, the seller will give me the portion that they seem fit.

    1. Ah! Then I will use this approach, will tell them the price of the portion.

    2. Ya, can try and see what the seller says. Sometimes they will say minimum price for no rice is RM xxx so have to order that minimum price if don't want more.

  4. I have one stray tuxedo female cat parks herself at my neighbour's house because a new comer ginger declared sovereignty over the car porch & hostile towards each other. The tuxedo cat still comes for her meal every day & belly rub whenever she sees me :)
