Lockdown Day #53 : So Bored Until I Watched Korean Drama

Today I am feeling lousy due to the side effects brought upon by the vaccination.

I woke up with a heavy head, joint and muscle ache and my left arm hurt. I also had fever. So I am resting. But I still want to update my blog because it will make me feel better.

It has been 53 days and counting. I don't mean that I am bored staying at home but I am bored not knowing what to watch for entertainment.

I love investigative documentaries and just finished watching Elize Matsunaga : Once Upon a Crime, a criminal case in Brazil.

I know many people are hooked on Korean dramas but somehow I never caught on to this craze. So I thought why not give it a try. Since my partner loves period dramas, we watched Moon Embracing The Sun.

I thought it was all right, it had drama and some light moments but after some 3 or 4 episodes, I decided to switch.

I thought Empress Ki was more interesting and it was. There was one character in the drama whom my partner refers to as Vincent Tan (because he looks like Tan Sri hah..hah...). We have loads of fun watching together because my partner often makes some funny remarks that crack me up.

Then I decided to watch some contemporary K-drama on my own. I googled for suggestions and came across The World of the Married, touted to be one of the most watched dramas in 2020. Yes, I am outdated.

I wanted to see what the hype was about. In my opinion, there is nothing salacious (as the title and blurbs may suggest) in this drama and the plot goes beyond affairs and infidelity.

It was a little over the top for me. The characters are wealthy and live in luxurious homes, drive cool cars, buy expensive clothes and eat at fancy restaurants. And then there are the convenient coincidences and events that defies logic. I suppose this is fantasy land and viewers are not expected to look to deep into what makes sense and what doesn't.

If there is one thing I like, it is the pretty dresses the actresses wear and oh, the winter coats. I love their winter coats! Of course the ladies are very pretty (that comes with the territory) and thank goodness the men don't look like girls.

I managed to stomach the whole series and came away with, oh ok, that was entertaining.

So what's next? I found Misty.

I find this one more interesting, though again there is that convenient coincidences and events that defy logic. I won't go into the details but suffice to say this drama has a dark theme and the ending is not a happy one. Again, love the beautiful dresses and the cool winter coats and shoes.

So what do I think of Korean drama? I think it is all right, quite entertaining though I won't say that I am addicted. Currently I am watching The Lady in Dignity, which I find quite amusing.

Ah well, it looks like I have graduated from Korean food to Korean dramas.

    1. Reading subtitles can be very distracting. Sometimes I have to rewind to catch the scene again. LOL!

  7. I would have died a suicidal death if there is no Netflix to keep me alive and sane. So I could read and feel your stress too. I missed all the travels and watched every single episode of travels in Netflix to feel rejuvenated as if I went aboard. Then I watched Korean dramas and most silly one is 2 different series of China's First Qin Emperor made by 2 different producers. That showed how crazy and nuts I was, as my my wife shook her head in disbelief.

I have watched all the Seasons for The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and LUCIFER. Highly recommended!!

    2. Yes. I swear that Kaypo TM watched all the long episodes of all the seasons of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills because it's so entertaining to see how filthy rich people fling their money to maximum. They are humans too and fight a lot more than us because their ego is too high. It was an eye opener for my wife who is quite naive to trust people easily. I finished all episodes and went on to watch Real Housewives of NYC which is thumbs down as the people in East Coast and West Coast US are entirely different culture and spoken English.
Next time please ask your lahling to drive you around the whole hills of Ukay Heights KL. It looks so similar to Beverly Hills.

  8. I've been watching Korean dramas in Netflix and I like those 'doctor/hospital', forensic and investigation series'. And the one I just finished was not bad too, 'Move To Heaven', short and quite meaningful.
