My Macam Macam Salad

It has been ages since I made myself a salad. I have been very naughty lately, eating out instead of prepping my own lunch. Tsk!

I blame this on Champ's awesome chee yoke fun. Behold my latest transgression, lunch last Friday.

Gah! So anyway, I tried to make up for it by eating somewhat healthy on Friday evening.

All this unhealthy stuff has got to stop because I have been resorting to wearing my fat pants again. Yup, the ones with the stretchy waistband (which is great to wear during makan sessions heh...heh...).

So I told myself that I would fix me a big salad on Sunday to atone for all my gastronomic sins.

There's all sorts of vegetables in there - broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, onion, chickpeas and a new found vegetable - kale, inspired by the kale salad that my partner had at Goodness Greens during one of our visits.

My partner's favorite at Goodness Greens.
Kale is quite tough so apparently, you need to massage it first to soften the leaves or else you will end up chewing like a cow.

That happened to me recently when I tapau salad from Salad Atelier and chose kale as my base. Adoi! So chewy that after my meal, I took some probiotics because I reckon the bacteria would love it and thrive hee..hee...hee...

For the salad dressing, I used the one I made here which so far, is my favorite. Here's to more salads from now on!

  4. You are very disciplined already! I only take salad when there is a buffet meal, never tried doing it at home before... with my heavy meal this morning, I would love to have a bowl of salad this evening. Yes, kale is very tough, can massage to soften it? I will try to do that the next time! LOL..

  8. Do you use chickpeas from a can or you buy fresh chickpeas already cooked? I actually love chickpeas but don't know where I can get cooked chickpeas.

    1. I used the canned ones. There are roadside stalls/vans that sell cooked chickpeas as snacks. In fact there's one near my office.

  9. Your home cooked salad looks so very tasty and healthy too! Keep it up! Kale in the supermarket looks so tough that I don't dare to try it for the sake of my weak teeth.

    1. hee..hee... my teeth hurt too after the one at Salad Atelier. But if left marinated in the dressing, the leaves become quite soft.
