A few Saturdays ago, after I dropped dad's stash of frozen porridge at my brother's house, I left with my partner with the intention of going home to clean my house.
I had been so busy cooking over the weekends that my housekeeping was neglected. When the house is messy, my head gets messy as well. I cannot stand chaos. So I had to clean up.
When we were at the traffic light outside 1 Utama, my partner suddenly piped up that he was hungry. Pulak. I told him that we should have stopped at Damansara Jaya to have a bite to eat.
So instead of going home, we headed back to Damansara Jaya again where my partner suggested we try Boon Signature Roast Pork because he remembered me mentioning this place to him.
I took this photo just as we were leaving. The crowd had already had their fill. |
It was still early and yet when we got there, the place was bustling. We were lucky to get a seat for two right at a tight corner.
I'm sorry I don't remember much of the menu or the prices. This brunch date was a blur to me as I was not in the right state of mind.
So anyway, since we were at Boon Signature Roast Pork, the order of the day was to try the signature roast pork.
My partner went with the wanton mee and roast pork,
I must say that the serving of roast pork was quite a good portion.
He said that the roast pork was good and he enjoyed the wanton mee.
In spite of being blur and all, I was greedy. Roast pork or char siew? So I got both with rice.
Now, what stood out about the roast pork was the skin. It was super crispy and crunchy. It was the puffed up sort of light crispiness, I don't know how else to describe it.
As for taste, it is distinctly different from the regular siew yoke that you get at the chicken rice shop. As I understand it, it is more of the western style roast pork like what I had here. I'm afraid I still prefer the taste of regular siew yoke.
As for the char siew, I was happy with it, sweet and smoky with the right ratio of fat to lean.
The soup that came with it was just OK to me but my partner seemed to enjoy it.
Apparently this restaurant now opens for dinner which means that it would be more convenient for us to visit.
Oh yeah, they have roast chicken too. So maybe on our next visit, I could give that a try. Another thing on the menu that I noticed is Iberico siew yoke. Maybe I'll have that with my brother one of these days.
Ooooo...the charred char siew!!! Yumssss!!!! I wish I could get good char siew here, all not quite there. Siew yoke's ok, we have.
ReplyDeleteWe have the best here! My parents enjoy the char siew and siew yoke whenever they visit.
DeleteAh, I see you came to the same conclusion as me regarding the siew yuk (that's why I say our tastebuds are quite similar). Your siew yuk skin looked a bit better than what I had (P/S: I see two extra pieces of siew yuk on your plate, was that your lahling giving you some extra pieces? See how much he sayang you...kekeke!) :D Oh, you should have tried the Iberico siew yuk, that was the best one of the lot (for me). ^_*
ReplyDeleteYup, I checked your post after I wrote this and hey, same opinion about the siew yoke :) You are very sharp, nothing escapes you, eh? Yes, my lahling donated 2 pieces of his siew yoke because he is always concerned that I don't have enough to eat hah..hah..
DeleteI could imagine how good the skin was. Roast pork must have that day and the skin is crackling and crispy. Slurp. Delicious.
ReplyDeleteI also cannot stand chaos in my house but most come from the boys. I always have to nag then to keep their stuff and toys, not piling on table or on floor. Sigh!
LOL! With kids there will be chaos :)
DeleteThe wantan mee looks really salivating!
ReplyDeleteRoast pork is just protein and fat, no harm eating wert! Am I right? Hahahaha!
Good for keto diet hee..hee...
DeleteNot easy to find good char siew and roast meat, i like crystal jade's ones
ReplyDeleteSo cute lah when you say when the house gets messy, your head gets messy too, i am someone who cannot stand the house messy too, i get very uncomfortable
Energy flow is better when things are neat :)
DeleteI know what you mean about the roasted pork skin. I like this kind of roasted skin the best because it is not oily at all.
ReplyDeleteThen you will enjoy the siew yok here :)
DeleteIndeed the roasted pork is very presentable and impressive on the plate of wanton noodles... good choice!!
ReplyDeleteThumbs up just that I prefer the Chinese style taste.
DeleteWell, I will definitely go for two if indecisive which one to have. The plate of roast pork and char siew wanton noodle definitely yummy!
ReplyDeleteWhy have only one when you can have both hee..hee...
DeleteI would also go for the siew yoke and char siew combination because I love both.
ReplyDeleteGood choice :)
DeleteI can see a good ratio of fat and lean meat on the Siew Yoke, perfect pork belly is used!
ReplyDeleteIndeed! Just that I am not in favor of the taste.
DeleteI was looking for wantan noodles with char siew or siew yoke here but quite disappointing at times because the meat pieces are very small for the price they charged.
ReplyDeleteUsually wanton mee is with char siew and I think not so common to add siew yoke.
