Last month was mooncake season and every year my partner would take me to buy mooncakes. And every year I find choosing mooncakes as gifts to be a headachy affair.
We usually buy mooncakes from the booths at Aeon right after our grocery shopping. When we get there, my head will go spinning from the various varieties available and I would have to consider who likes egg yolks and who doesn't.
So to cut the long story short, we bought a box of this together with a few boxes of other assorted mooncakes.
It was for a family member and then later he remembered that she is avoiding egg yolks. Ding dong ding dong, in the end we decided to keep it for ourselves and got her something else.
It comes in a box of 8 mini mooncakes (they call this egg yolk pie, cute), four with lotus paste and four with yam paste. As you can see from the photo, the two yam ones are missing.
I generally love yam and the one I sampled earlier was very good.
Wah! Loved this! Flaky crust with creamy yam filling. Not too sweet and the whole salted egg yolk added savory and salty notes to the mooncake.
Next I tried the lotus paste.
One for now and one for later.
Nice! But I prefer the yam.
I like this Egg Yolk Pie mooncake. Next year, if I see this again, I want!
