This happened on the week Halla Holla promoted their Sourdough Egg Tart. Yes, there is such a thing.
I went for the RM16.00 bundle - coffee, butter croissant (chosen from a list of options) and a free Sourdough Cookie. Then I add on the Sourdough Egg Tart.
The croissant looked like it had seen better days (note the burnt edge). Not up to their usual standards.
Now, the Sourdough Egg Tart. It is supposed to be crispy, crunchy and flaky (as demonstrated by Terrence, the proprietor on Instagram) but unfortunately, this one that I had was tough and chewy.
The filling was not outstanding. I made a comment on Instagram and I was asked to visit within "the next one two days" to get a replacement. I appreciated the offer but I did not go back to claim.
A week later, they were promoting this Citrus Butter Cake. Halla Holla is introducing these limited edition bakes to invigorate sales. Which is nice for variety to keep customers happy.
This butter cake had a citrus sugar glaze which is of course sweet. It was a nice cake but it could have been more moist (I reckon it dried out a bit standing at the display counter).
I didn't want to throw out the glaze, so I dug it out and ate with the center part of the cake to mute the sweet taste.
Halla Holla makes great pastries (the regular items that are on their menu) while the specially curated items need more attention on execution. I don't mean to be snarky, just being honest.
It's DEEPAVALI today and I wish my Hindu readers a wonderful celebration and to the rest of you, happy holiday!
Good morning! Yes it is the Deepavali public holiday today. But I still need to work hah! It's alright as I WFH so will take my own sweet time doing some household chores before starting to work. Now blogging with a million dollar scenery of birds chirping and flying in the woods in front of my laptop. Talking about sugar overload, I also had buttermilk Chocolate Kit Kat cake at S$2.20 at CRAVE outlet T2 Changi Airport yesterday as I simply could not resist. Also bought Kinder Bueno milk chocolate (S$2.50) and Beryl's classic tiramisu milk chocolate ($3.30) for my chocolate craving. The milk chocolate just melted in my mouth and the tiramisu chocolate was bittersweet and not bad actually. It is a pity that what you had at Halla Holla did not live up to your expectations. Next time you can just order their regular items.
ReplyDeleteHappy holiday and have a wonderful day!
