Well, I was curious about Halla Holla's Sea Salt Coconut Gula Melaka Kouign Amann. I love Kouign Amann and my last one was at Lavie Boulangerie in 2024.
Proteins first before carbs to reduce glucose spike. The eggs are as wonderful as ever especially the creamy yolks. I never get tired of fried eggs.
"Filled with Gula Melaka coconut flakes and coated with lemongrass caramel syrup, this pastry is sweet, savory, and finished with a touch of sea salt. Every layer has that perfect caramelized crunch!"
This is one hell of a Kouign Amann. Love it! Love it! Love it! Yes, it is sweet, with a crunch, buttery and with nuances of kaya due to the coconut flakes in the filling.
Yes, that was worth the calories (and glucose hah!).
The residents and staff upstairs were singing their hearts out which was quite a delight. "That's us next time", quipped my brother hah...hah...
Soon it was time for lunch. Traffic was very heavy.
At Kar Hiong, my brother called the shots.
This is the first time we are having this tofu dish. I enjoyed this dish but my brother has had much better ones.
And lastly, our favorite Dong Choi Steamed Fish (carp). The fish was very fresh and that elevated our enjoyment even more!
Earlier in the morning, my microbiology project (3rd batch of L. Reuteri) turned out well.
We have sea salt caramel waffle in our neighborhood bakery too, I was curious but did not try. Singing is good for our health.
ReplyDeleteI also sing when I am at home hah..hah..hah...
DeleteAt first I thot that is a photo of your house with the CNY decoration, any CNY decoration in your house, show show! Very thoughtful of both you and your brother to give your parents privacy.
ReplyDeleteOh no, no decorations in my house. In fact I have never decorated it for festive occasion. My neighbors however have hung lovely lanterns at their carporch.
DeleteI learned new words and phrases this morning lol. Blogging also can help to improve our language, I love blogging! Can guess which new words/phrases I Iearned from your post?
ReplyDeleteHmmm....you better tell me LOL!
DeleteI hope to get to try this Halla Holla's Sea Salt Coconut Gula Melaka Kouign Amann one day 😋🤤
ReplyDeleteGood that the staff all sing well with the residents. Singing keeps people happy 😁
It sure does!
DeleteIt's a glossy, glossy Saturday...lol! I've had this pastry before but can't say I'm a fan. It contains many layers (much like a croissant but not as flaky and light)...I prefer a croissant over this. Eh, only 3 dishes at your regular Saturday lunch place?...very unusual wor! :D
ReplyDeleteAlamak! I forgot to include the 4th dish wahahahaha!!! Thanks for prodding me and I have updated the post hee..hee... Well, as for the pastry, I like both croissant and kouign amman but if I had to choose, it would be kougn amman :)
DeleteThat's a huge plate of Paku! There is always unusual traffic before Chinese New Year where peoples all come out from nowhere and stuck in the jam. >_<
ReplyDeleteRight? Suddenly so many cars on the road.
