Chinese New Year Goodies

This morning, the world around me was very crisp and bright. I was alive and awake and my mind (and eyesight) was as sharp as a Santoku knife.

That was the result of three days of nutritious food and relaxation although I was pretty much doing a lot of chores at home.

I went to the office and then made my way to my brother's house. As with my Saturday routine, I made a pit stop at Halla Holla.

Oh my. Look at that. New items on the menu - Salty Pretzel (had that a while back), Spinach Suisse Danish, Triple Cheese Twist (which I had last week tsk! tsk!) and the latest addition, Coconut Gula Melaka Kouign Amann.

True to my 2025 carnivore reset, I settled on 6 eggs. And black coffee.

Woot! Woot! Well done, madam!

And then I saw their 2025 Chinese New Year Cookie collection

And I got a set for my mum to share with my brother.

It comes in a nice good quality plastic bag.

Pure Butter Golden Pineapple Tarts and Golden Almond Crisp. I am sure these are good. I'll have to get feedback.

As I walked out of Halla Holla, I continued to feel good and energetic all the way to my brother's house. It's so good to feel good.

At the house I spotted that my brother had already had a head start of goodies hee..hee...

Later at lunch, we were back at Kar Hiong.

Mum's dream came true when my brother ordered the Steamed Asam Fish. It was as delicious as ever.

Asam Fish always goes well with Paku Belacan, a favorite all round.

The Bittergourd Stir Fried with Egg was all right, but no wok hei this time.

I decided on this dish, the Steamed Minced Pork with Dong Choi. The meat was too lean and therefore hard and dry. Besides, it had a mild porkie smell. Bad call on my part. Won't order again.

It rained heavily on our way home and I stayed with mum until the rain stopped.

On my walk back to Damansara Uptown, I felt fatigued and thirsty. The bright eyed bushy tailed feeling was gone.

The Chinese New Year decorations are still work-in-progress at The Starling. As expected, the Christmas choo choo train will be reused.

This was my girls' breakfast this morning. Boiled chicken with chicken broth thrown in for good measure. I had not cooked for them for a few months (too lazy), relying on canned wet food.

Well, on the first day of new year, I put them back on chicken. It was rewarding because they don't poop as often and the smell is milder. On processed food, they produce huge volume of poop (very stinky) and they poop more than once a day.

Now the litter box is cleaner, less smelly and I only need to scoop twice a day (mostly pee).

While my girls were eating, I spotted Kittie Kat's ex-lover under my neighbor's car. Had I not spayed Kittie Kat (and her daughters), you bet my house would be full of kittens in various stages of development. Hah!

  1. Good that you woke up to a sharp and energised you. The pineapple tarts which you bought for your mom and brother look very buttery and tasty. Could it be the food at kar hiong that made you feel tired later part of the day? Ex-lover! Lol! Old flame.

    1. I believe I reacted to the food at Kar Hiong. I know that most people find it strange why I was OK with Chinese restaurant food but now I react to it. It's because after cleaning up my diet (avoiding heavily seasoned and processed food), I feel very good and when I add back the foods that I ate in the past (which are full of seasonings, msg etc), my body/brain can feel the difference.

  3. A very fruitful Saturday for you! Your plate of 6 eggs look very nice with golden yolks. Your mom is blessed to have children like you and your brother's who take good care of her and your father. 👍 Can't thank you enough for taking good care of your 4 kiddos. 😻

  4. The pineapple tarts would be my husband's favourite but the almond crisps is too sugary (they use a lot of sugar to bind the nuts together, that's why it's so glossy)! >_< Oh dear, were you fatigued & thirsty from Kar Hiong's lunch? I recently tried to cook bitter gourd at home and I think mine looks better than Kar Hiong's...lol! :D
