Delicious Cheese Baked Specials at Deli Foodie, The Starling

It was 30-12-2024, two more days to 2025 (today!). Christmas is barely over and now Chinese New Year stuff are on display.

See that? The God of Prosperity already beckons with gold nuggets and all hah..hah..hah...

Some more on my walk back from Damansara Jaya I chanced upon this ong lai (pineapple). Wah! Ong mau mali lor.... (luck is coming!). Hope so lah, eh?

So the question that comes to mind (as always). What to eat, eh? The evening before, I assembled a bowl of Pigs In A Blanket but forgot to snap photo.

I actually stopped at Rakuzen, wanting to eat one of the maki hamun. But nobody attended to me (to be fair it was early, around 11:00am+, but still).

So I decided to go upstairs to the food court.

Ah! Why not I try Deli Foodie? I am allowing myself carbs the last two days of the year. Good excuse, isn't it? So I walked to the stall which is located between Little Tree (vegetarian) and Taiwan Braised Pork Rice.

There I was attended to by friendly gentleman (who is the proprietor and who also reminded me of my cousin in Terengganu whom I have not seen in a long time).

I was keen on the Cheese Baked Rice, specifically the Pork Rendang and Potatoes. Alas, this item is not available as yet. So the boss recommended the Green Curry Pork Chop

Honestly, I was a bit iffy about the green curry but I took a leap of faith.

As I waited for my order, I looked at the stall right in front of me - Triple Happiness, which I am glad is still around.

The carnivore in me was eyeing the meats hanging from the meat hooks.

My lust for meat was strirred arrrr...arrrr... (like Dracula looking at blood).

Not too long after, my buzzer buzzed.

There you go. My Green Curry Pork Chop Cheese Baked Rice.

I know it does not look appealing. Looks can be deceiving. I would rather ugly food taste good rather than pretty food taste bad. Well, at least the crockery is pretty.

The moment of truth. I took a scoop (it was piping hot, so I cooled it down first).

Oohh la la! So good!!! The green curry sauce (surprisingly) is legit. Very aromatic and tasty. So was the pork chop, well marinated and tender. I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this so much.

The tangy coleslaw is what a coleslaw should be, no complaints.

See. Proof that I enjoyed my meal. Licin! So I walked up to the boss to compliment him. I rarely do this, only when I find something exceptional.

So that was a very carb loaded meal. So what do we do when we eat a lot of carbs? Walk! So I worked the mall and did my escalator climbing stunt.

I stopped at Mr DIY and found this. So if you want to pull a penyangak stunt and need a baclava, you can come to Mr DIY. No, no. I didn't buy. Tsk!

Well, the next day, I returned to Deli Foodie because I wanted to try the Lamb Chop Cheese Baked Spaghetti. I chose Black Pepper because that seemed like the most suitable sauce.

I got greedy and wanted to add on a jacket potato but it turned out that these come in a set which includes corn and coleslaw. That would be too much so I had to abandon the idea.

I waited for quite some time for my order to be ready. It looked very much like what I had the day before.

Mmmmm... I couldn't wait to dig in.

It felt like 100 years since I had pasta LOL!

I would say that in terms of flavor, this one did not bowl me over as much, though tasty just the same. No fault in the preparation, just a matter of preference.

The portion of lamb chop was very generous and I would have liked it a bit more tender. The black pepper sauce was subtle, not overpowering, which was good.

Well, that was another tasty carb loaded meal, my last for 2024. I will be embarking on a carnivore reset January 2025 through March 2025.

After both meals at Deli Foodie, I did not experience any ill effects. No drop in energy level or feeling sluggish. Also no thirst. Which means that (in my books the ingredients are clean) I can return in future.

So that was me ending 2024 with a carb bang bash hah..hah..hah...

The photo above was taken just before the lunch crowd started pouring in. Well, I wish Deli Foodie all the best!

Today is the first day of 2025 and I wish one and all a very Happy New Year! I look forward to a productive and peaceful day ahead (with my cats).

    1. Well, there was another carb indulgence in the afternoon before new year eve. Tsk! LOL! You were right, my girls kept kacau-ing me whenever I opened the front door (I went in and out doing chores) expecting me to handout treats! When I was trimming my plants today, Ah Boi kept wanting to jump into the garbage bag. Haiz! Happy New Year!

  2. Hey there! I am also looking forward to a peaceful day at home, doing houseworks at my own pace. As long as there is black kopi, music/songs, a laptop and a full blast fan to keep the temperature cooling, I am good. Good that you like the green curry, green curry is one of my favourites. I must admit I cannot live without carbs, I don't like the feeling of a hungry stomach and carbs help to fill up my hungry and empty stomach. Lucky that my blood test results was good, blood glucose level was within desirable level (I do not have diabetes). By the way, I just had fish soup rice with lots of veggies. It was a comforting and satisfying lunch. I chose to sleep in first day of the year lol. Woke up only at 11.30am. Happy new year!

  3. Happy new year 2025 to you and your loved ones🎊🎊🎊
    Thank you for the review.
The lamb cheese baked sounds like a nightmare for my weak teeth because if you say it could be more tender then definitely I wouldn't be able to handle it.
Green curry pork cheese baked sounds more suitable for me.

    1. LOL! There was one inflated Santa Claus at a building near my office. In the evening, they let out the air and it looked like Santa was lying down resting.

  5. I passed by the food court on last Sunday and the business was brisk. I'm not a fan of HK Cha Chan Teng style cheese baked rice because I don't like my rice being drenched in sauce. Hubby just told me that he wants an exact baclava like the one you showed in your post , which he said he wants to put it on the head rest of his car seat, what a weird thinking. =.="
