Brussel Sprouts with Lap Cheong

When I was a child I used to read story books and once in a while I would come across brussel sprouts being mentioned. I used to wonder what are brussel sprouts.

But I was not too keen on them because the children in the stories disliked brussel sprouts. And then when I was older, my mum told me about how the Scottish cooked their vegetables. They just boiled the veggies and seasoned them with salt.

No wonder nobody liked their veggies!

Brussel sprouts can be delicious. Cook them with something awesome like bacon or sausages or lap cheong.  And must have garlic, ok?

Just chop up one lap cheong and 4 cloves garlic. Saute the lap cheong until aromatic and oozes oil, then throw in the garlic and stir fry until lightly browned.

Next throw in the sliced brussel sprouts and stir fry until they are just cooked. Season with salt and pepper.

Now tell me you still don't like brussel sprouts.

  2. Fried? I thought that was a salad and I was thinking, it would be nicer with sausage or bacon. Not crazy about brussel sprouts.

  5. I don't like lap cheong though I can eat them no problem. I prefer blanched or steamed brussel sprouts without any salt. I cooked and ate a lot of steamed brussel sprouts while overseas. yums!

  7. I m ok to just eat the steamed brussel sprouts without any seasoning....and without lapcheong (coz I dislike the taste). I would have put sausage or Taiwanese sausage though...lolx

  8. Ah, I remember you making this not too long ago with bacon. Why is there a need to slice it? Is it because it's hard. Most brussel sprouts recipes I see online either roast them whole or cut in half only. I'm not sure if I had ever eaten brussel sprouts. I remember having stir-fried choy tam that looked like it. I know choy tam is usually referred to as brussels sprouts leaves but the choy tam I had before really looked like brussels sprouts. Maybe they were baby choy tam? ;)

    1. Tt's a bit hard but it's OK to leave whole or halved if roasting because it becomes soft. I happen to love choy tham but apparently they are not the same.

  9. Brussels sprouts are another one of my favourite veg - they have to be well-cooked though for me to like them.
