I was a fan of Rice & Pot Empire ever since my first visit in 2019.
But in 2023 I was disenchanted as the quality of the Ultimate Pork Indulgence (my default order here) dropped. The broth was diluted and the amount of pork served shrunk in spite of price increase. So I stopped visiting.
But I decided to come back and check them out because they are on the Grab Dine-Out deals with 15% discount.
The decor is pretty much the same as before except for Chinese New Year decorations including the beautiful lanterns hanging at the entrance.
I arrived immediately after my walk from Damansara Jaya and I was sweating buckets. It was so very hot!
I chose a table placed between these two fans and the staff switched on both fans after I was seated.
The restaurant has adopted QR ordering system so I placed my order for the Ultimate Pork Indulgence.
The workers are obviously very strong. Imagine carrying 10 bags of rice on your shoulder like that.
That's my bowl of fiery red kimchi pork bone soup. The flavors were good, full bodied, sourish and spicy hot.
As what I usually do, I removed the pork ribs and bursting meatballs to a side plate to cool down. I left the sliced pork belly in the soup.
The bursting meatballs were very tasty. Although I enjoyed my meal, I suffered from excessive thirst when I returned to the office.
The previous week, I had dropped by to eat the same pork soup but with Tomato Pork Bone Soup. It was delicious but at that time I did not feel thirsty.
I'm wondering why they needed more msg for the kimchi pork bone soup but not the tomato-based one...which leads me to wonder if store-bought or restaurant-made kimchi have significant amounts of msg (maybe even sugar) to make it taste good. I was recently tempted to buy ready-made bulgogi sauce (which I saw the cooking live on Shopee) but when I googled the product, the nutritional facts said that for a 270g pack, the carbs is 37g (which I think it's ok) of which 22.4g is sugar...that's considered high, is it not? I'm not very good at reading labels especially the right amounts in relation to size/weight of food. Does that mean the making of bulgogi & kimchi is reasonably high in sugar?
ReplyDeleteStore bought kimchi does contain msg, unfortunately >.< Bulgogi sauce is sweet but I think 22.4g sugar is reasonable. After all, we are not going to drink the whole packet of sauce LOL! Kimchi contains a small amount of sugar BEFORE fermentation and that sugar is meant to be consumed by the bacteria. The label on kimchi shows the ingredients prior to fermentation, so although you may see sugar listed, that sugar will be very much reduced and converted into acid.
DeleteOh, I remember I have bought delivery from this eatery during pandemic.
ReplyDeleteSometimes no msg but just too much salt will make us thirsty too.
Yes, true but it wasn't that salty. I ended up drinking so much water and became bloated >.<
DeleteI thought you would omit the pork balls as they are processed food.
ReplyDeleteWell, these pork balls were delicious LOL!
