So Saturday afternoon I was very sleepy (after lunch at Kar Hiong). I was also a little bit peckish. I was thinking about grilled cheese sandwich. Tsk!
I also needed coffee. Iced coffee. So I went to Red Kettle and had this very potent iced Long Black. Ahhhh!!!! Straight away my mata terbeliak (eyes popped open). Ding!
This is the Grilled Cheese Sandwich served with fries and mushroom puree. The fries were crispy outside and fluffy inside and salty. It was good.
The mushroom puree had butter and cream in it so it did not appeal to me. I just had a few spoonfuls and would have liked it better with loads of pepper.
The portion size is too small for the price charged. I would happily skip the mushroom puree for a bigger portion of bread and cheese.
After the meal, I went for a short walk at the mall.
Sourdough could be better than regular bread (longer fermentation, meaning more of the sugars are consumed by the microbes) but it does not mean that you can go to town with it just because they say it is "low carb". A carb is a carb is a carb.
If you are cutting down carbs to lose weight or reverse type 2 diabetes, lay off sourdough bread (and other breads) for the time being.
Get your health issues sorted out first. Once you are metabolically healthy, you may reintroduce sourdough or any other breads (and other carbs) but know that you cannot overeat carbs because that will lead you back to where you started.
If you can moderate your intake of carbs (ie not go crazy and start a binge fest), then good for you.
I will avoid vaccines as far as possible.
Right across the pharmacy is Thai Tai (which used to be Very Thai). I don't know if Thai Tai is the same management/rebranding or a new entity.
While tidying up my phone gallery, I found my last meal (in 2023) at the now defunct Very Thai. Based on that meal, I can understand why Very Thai is no more.
Yeah, sometimes these restaurants "hide" their true identity by rebranding, so we have to be careful (the first thing when I saw the pork neck, I said to myself "looks so dry"). Naughty2...bread + fries! :D The mushroom puree looked like side of mushroom soup. If you needed black pepper, why didn't you ask the server for it? Like you said, sourdough or even wholemeal bread may be better than white bread...but a bread is a bread is a bread...lol!
ReplyDeleteYa, I should have asked for pepper. I don't know why I didn't think of that >.< You are absolutely right, a bread is a bread is a bread. Sigh..... LOL!
DeleteGood morning! Today is my off day. So I had decided to have a fun day dressing up and acting like a tourist on local soil. Being out early in the morning dressing like a tourist/OL taking the train with the rest I was able to relive my feel good quotient of working as an OL during my prime years and yet do not have to pay the price of needing to withstand office politics. Hah! I had Nam Kee Big Pau at S$2.30 for breakfast. The bao was juicy and tasty with half a hard boiled egg inside. How about beverage? I dabao from my neighborhood food centre kopi stall lady boss who knows me so well and knows my preference and I had it at Nam Kee Pau. No worries that they will chase me away if I only ordered their food and not their beverage.
ReplyDeleteGood morning! Sounds like you had fun! What is OL? I can just imagine the relaxing feeling of going jalan2 with no time restrictions to meet. Big pau and kopi is something that I would enjoy!
DeleteOL stands for Office Lady.
DeleteOh, OK, got it!
DeleteYea, same as Kris the mushroom puree looked like mushroom soup to me and had me drooling. Yes, me too I dislike pork which are too dry, very wise of you not to visit again. Same here no to flu vaccines for me too though I heard from the news news over our radio station that there has been more folds of those taking these vaccines due to upcoming holiday plans. I am good as I am. Just be more careful that's all.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why can't they call it mushroom soup, maybe to sound fancy. We need to keep healthy so that our immune system is strong. And yes, try not go go to crowded places.
DeleteI don't like McD's fried which are crispy on the outside, not fluffy inside and too thinly sliced. Mos burger (A Japanese burgers chain) did their fries very well. Big chunks, a little crispy on the outside and very fluffy inside. It is a pity/regret that Malaysia does not have Mos burgers which I wonder why? I need to check if they are Halal certified or not.
ReplyDeleteI used to like McD's fries long long ago before I came across better fries hah..hah...
DeleteAh, one day I will check out this grilled cheese sandwich at red kettle. Thanks for the review. 😋 👍
ReplyDeleteLet me know what you think of it especially the mushroom puree.
DeleteSo this grilled cheese sandwich set which you had at Red Kettle is considered vegetarian as it looked like there was no meat in the set at all?
ReplyDeleteHmmm... perhaps since there is no meat.
DeleteBy the way, just sidetract a bit, are good yogurts tend to smell like they had gone bad? Today I tried a new brand of yogurt (Chobani brand Greek yogurt with Raspberry on the bottom at S$4.75). It smelled like it had gone bad and it tasted sourish, maybe it is how this brand is like. I bought today and consumed today so there is no reason it had gone bad plus I had checked the expiry date is in March/April.
ReplyDeleteOh dear! Maybe Greek yogurt tends to have a stronger smell? I find that different brands have slightly different flavor profiles. If you did not get stomachache, then can assume that the yogurt was not spoilt.
DeleteSuch a scarce amount of fries... >_<
ReplyDeleteIt was just nice for me. I would prefer bigger portion of bread.
