Monday Break Fast

I fasted for 21 hours from 5:00pm Sunday to 2:00pm Monday.

Ramadan is coming and I might fast along with my Muslim brothers and sisters. If I am not wrong, the Ramadan fast duration is something like 13 hours.

It is very challenging because it is a dry fast, i.e. no intake of water/fluids. I might not survive that hah..hah... so I will do my usual water fast.

I broke my fast at Dave's Deli. I did not get coffee since they serve water on the house.

They have outdoor seating but not a good idea in this very hot weather.

I obviously have feelings for their roast chicken. I got half chicken with coleslaw. I decided not to get roasted vegetables because I don't want tons of roasted carrots.

I was at Jaya Grocer to get Farm Fresh full cream milk. This person was there rearranging milk cartons.

With all due respect, this individual most likely has metabolic syndrome and he would do well to restrict sugar and carbohydrates. Fasting would also help him. I say this with good intentions.

Unfortunately, the full cream milk (in carton) was not available. So I thought to try the ones sold in glass bottles.

The chillers were empty.

Adoi. No stock.

Then I checked the pricing. If you buy the bottled milk, it costs RM11.40 per bottle. And if you clean up the bottle and bring it back to refill, you pay RM8.40.

The one sold in the carton is also RM8.40 per liter. But I guess glass is environmentally friendly. Luckily I have one spare carton in the fridge.

Then I went upstairs. A cream puff kiosk is opening on level 3.

You open, I fatty.

I will post updates.

Well, back at the office, I felt like I wasn't full.

I know what you are saying. Oh, you didn't eat any carbs or you didn't have enough sides. No, no, no. Chicken is not filling (for me). It is not as nutrient dense as beef. I need more chicken to get full.

This time I used the GrabPay 15% Dine-Out discount. So I paid RM33.40 instead of RM39.30.

I had bacteria for dessert and I was satiated after that.

Guess what? I didn't eat dinner because I wasn't hungry. Yay!

  1. Bacteria for dessert is a good idea 👍 to feel full for the day. Thanks for the idea. I will try it too although I don't have nice bacteria that you made yourself at home. 😋

  3. I love boiled baby carrots in my western set, fresh, juicy, tender, well cooked with a tinge of sweetness. I don't like carrots which are too raw or in strips and are hard to chew and eat. I didn't eat dinner on 17th February Monday too when I had a heavy Thai food lunch. One stone kills two birds hee hee. Yes Ramadan fasting and hari raya are coming. I am adopting taking yogurt at times for my after food dessert. For calcium and good bacteria.

    1. It's good that you are taking yogurt! Commercial yogurt is fermented for only a short time, so the microbe count is lower compared to home fermented (I do 12 hours). But still, it is beneficial.

  4. Wow, going to attempt fasting...good for you. I can't fast...I can't even get through if I skip a meal, my hands would shake (and I found out that my regular pork noodles seller also faces the same problem, so I'm not alone in this)...lol!

  5. Yes, Ramadan fasting is 12/13 hours because if I am not wrong, I remember they start from morning and break fast during dinner night time. For buddhists, some they also do fasting for religious reasons (they call it the Eight Precepts Fasting). Like Kris, I don't think I can fast cos even eating lesser my hands would tremble and my stomach would start calling (so embarrassing lol!). Plus eating is a joy to me and if I fast, I would have too much ample time as I usually spend a lot of time eating, so must find things to do to distract oneself, if not difficult lah. Your fasting is for health or religious reasons?

    1. You are so cute - too much time on your hands if you fast, LOL! Yes, I find eating a joy too, especially when I break a fast. My fast is for health reasons.

I guess maybe these people don't care at all. There are people around who believe "Everyone wants to go to heaven but no one wants to die". They just eat and enjoy and heck care. Maybe they had seen cases of people who are super overweight and fat and still enjoy a life span up to age 75. So they have a mentality of "who cares? Just enjoy". They think they are not scare of death, but till one day they suffer pain then they will realise it but by that time it will be too late.

    1. Many people whom I know are not willing to give up their habits and their favorite foods. That is their choice and I do not judge them, although I try to hint hint and influence them. I prefer soft approach.

  7. I would like to get those in glass too if this kiosk is available in Aeon because I hardly do my grocery shopping at Jaya Grocer because its price is slightly higher.
