At the end of last year, I rearranged my exercise stuff (in my so-called home gym hah..hah...). And I stepped up on my resistance training.
But I prefer conventional jump rope because the rope presents a challenge - your feet needs to clear the rope as you jump. I don't bother to count, I do high intensity - jump very fast for 20-30 seconds at max intensity. Rest, then repeat.
My 5kg dumbbells are well used.
So is my 7kg kettlebell. They are not gathering dust hah..hah...
Soon I will start sprinting again (I stopped due to back pain).
My mission is to build and maintain muscle mass and improve physical strength.
I am stronger now and I can lift my cast iron pan with one hand.
Hah!
Well done, madam!
In my senior years (past 70) I want to maintain good balance, be able to walk steadily, climb stairs and navigate the world outside with ease. No stumbling and shuffling which is very common among the elderly.
(1) Start early in life.
That's right. Start today.
I came upon this story on Instagram. Sorry I can't make this bigger.
My dad used to pooh pooh exercise. My mum attempted to make him exercise in the past but nope he never listened.
Dad never cared about nutrition and physical exercise. To him that was all nonsensical.
Last year when we visited the home, he told me that he finally understands and appreciates what "Health is Wealth" meant. He even told me that I must exercise (which I am doing).
I am blessed that I already understand that "Health is Wealth" before it is too late. Please do not leave matters to fate. Take the reins of your own destiny and chart your path to good health.
For those of you who have children, your own good health is the best gift that you can give your children.
Now if you will excuse me, I have to go exercise.
Good for you. We all know exercise is very important for us and our well-being...but having the commitment to keep doing it on a regular basis needs very strong initiatives from us which unfortunately many of us lack...lol!
ReplyDeleteOh absolutely. I have missed some sessions due to all sorts of things and even excuses LOL!
DeleteI do light exercises in my neighbourhood park/garden and in my neighbourhood library with aircon hah while reading book. You Geng ah Madam PH! So when you go buy groceries and necessities no need trolleys liao.
ReplyDeleteGood! Eh, still need trolley LOL!
DeleteYay! Jia you Jia you to you! 💪💪💪Thank you for the article, I read every small word 😁
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI read every word from the Instagram Story. Yes, even walking to and fro in your neighbourhood helps and adding fun element to it, is good too. Really, I had seen too many sad cases of elderly planted in front of the TV living a meaningless life with no quality. The pictures of her dad in his 80s reminds me of the Chinese Actor Chow Yun Fat (also know as Donald Chow).
ReplyDeleteEven sadder is elderlies who are bedridden, just waiting for time.
DeleteI'm using cordless skipping rope and like what you said it's easier to manage and since I stay in high rise apartment, I think the "slapping' sound of the skipping rope might be rather disturbing for my downstairs neighbour.
ReplyDeleteOh ya, very true that the sound could disturb your downstairs neighbor.
