I Want To Be A Strong Auntie

At the end of last year, I rearranged my exercise stuff (in my so-called home gym hah..hah...). And I stepped up on my resistance training.

I found this jump rope at Mr DIY. I know there are virtual skipping ropes (these do not have a rope) that can count the number of jumps.

But I prefer conventional jump rope because the rope presents a challenge - your feet needs to clear the rope as you jump. I don't bother to count, I do high intensity - jump very fast for 20-30 seconds at max intensity. Rest, then repeat.

My 5kg dumbbells are well used.

So is my 7kg kettlebell. They are not gathering dust hah..hah...

Soon I will start sprinting again (I stopped due to back pain).

My mission is to build and maintain muscle mass and improve physical strength.

I am stronger now and I can lift my cast iron pan with one hand.

Hah!

Well done, madam!

I want to be a strong old lady. Seeing the devastation of chronic disease at the nursing home has strengthened my resolve.

In my senior years (past 70) I want to maintain good balance, be able to walk steadily, climb stairs and navigate the world outside with ease. No stumbling and shuffling which is very common among the elderly.

(1) Start early in life.

  (2) Start now!

(3) Move your ass!

(4) Do not underestimate the importance of your muscles.

(5) Set aside time to exercise. Even walking, which to me is the easiest exercise to implement.

(6) Make the effort!

(7) Build strength and grow old strong!

That's right. Start today.

I came upon this story on Instagram. Sorry I can't make this bigger.

My dad used to pooh pooh exercise. My mum attempted to make him exercise in the past but nope he never listened.

Dad never cared about nutrition and physical exercise. To him that was all nonsensical.

Last year when we visited the home, he told me that he finally understands and appreciates what "Health is Wealth" meant. He even told me that I must exercise (which I am doing).

I am blessed that I already understand that "Health is Wealth" before it is too late. Please do not leave matters to fate. Take the reins of your own destiny and chart your path to good health.

For those of you who have children, your own good health is the best gift that you can give your children.

Now if you will excuse me, I have to go exercise.

  1. Good for you. We all know exercise is very important for us and our well-being...but having the commitment to keep doing it on a regular basis needs very strong initiatives from us which unfortunately many of us lack...lol!
