Covid-19 MCO : Day #44 (I Ate Big Prawns Today. Jealous Or Not?)

Before the Chinese New Year, my brother (the married one) gifted me a packet of large prawns. He was sharing his stash of prawns (gifted by his wife's customer) with me and of course I gratefully accepted. Rezeki jangan ditolak!

As you know, I am not exactly a seafood enthusiast and the prawns stayed in the freezer past Chinese New Year. Since I am clearing out my freezer, I took the prawns out to defrost overnight in the fridge.

Whoa! Beautiful prawns. What to cook, eh? Then I remembered the fantastic Fried Prawns with Chili, Garlic and Salt that I cooked back in 2014. So that was what I cooked.

The spice paste is easy - just chilies, garlic and salt. Fry the prawns, remove, then saute the spice paste till aromatic. Return the prawns to the wok and toss with the spice paste. Done!

Then there was the leftover tapioca leaves from yesterday.

I found a recipe that I thought I might like. It involves boiling the tapioca leaves until tender, squeezing out the water and cutting it into small pieces. Then the tapioca leaves are fried in a spice paste.

After boiling and squeezing, there was so little of it.

I thought it tasted very nice, just make sure you boil it adequately or else you will be chewing like a goat. I will not hesitate to buy tapioca leaves in the future to cook this dish or to try other recipes using tapioca leaves. I followed this recipe.

Now back to the prawns. I have forgotten how good this simple chili, garlic and salt prawns tastes. If you don't like it hot, then use less chilies or omit the chilies entirely. Garlic and salt is the one that makes the magic, the chilies are just to give it heat.

Do you miss my cat? hee..hee...

This morning when I opened the door, look who was outside.

Ish! This fella very kurang asam. Not paiseh at all.

Look at the two of them. Lepak-lepak together. They also know how to practice social distancing.

My Girl sometimes is like Hindustan movie.

She hides behind the flower pot when her suitor comes a calling. Can you see her?

Her boyfriend plays it cool lah.

He waits patiently.

Until his Minachi decides to come out.

She can even stop to give a sultry pose. The only thing missing is some music...

Aiyah Girl....Mommy sayang you so much! You are the child I never had.

Mommy already told you the prawns you cannot eat!

    You'll love it!
Ummmm...you did not cut away all the legs of the prawns. Did you devein it? There's a black sac in the head - that is bitter and has to be removed. No, I'm not jealous - had the big prawns too that day - coming soon in my blog! :D

  6. Of course jealous-lah! I've not seen prawns in the wet market (of the one I started patronising because of the MCO) for a while now, let alone big ones. Your prawn stash is 3 months old?...it wouldn't have lasted that long if they were in my fridge (any compromise on the texture after being frozen for so long?). I pity your lahling who could not partake in your delicious prawns (nor your tapioca leaves) because of the spice paste. I'm guessing his dinner involved fried eggs?....wuahahahaha! :D

I'm surprised your girl's boyfriend would come and wait patiently for her. Male cats do that when they're trying to court the females for mating. The male will follow a female stray and sit patiently next to her until she accepts him. But since your girl has been 'fixed', he wouldn't be interested anymore. He could be coming to wait patiently for you to feed him....haha! ;D

    1. The quality of the prawns was still good. My lahling had rice. With sardines. wahahaha!! Actually he is quite particular about seafood - must be very fresh or else he cannot tahan the smell. So fussy hah..hah...

I decided to be kind and gave him a bit of food earlier. So he was waiting for her hah..hah... She seems to like his company. But sometimes she gives mixed signals.

    2. The sardines are fresh? Not from cans?

    3. Don't canned sardines smell fishy too? Your lahling very weird...hah..hah! :D

  9. You are so right! My eyes were green and I was so jealous of your huge prawns! Tu lah rezeki mu, jangan tolak dan jangan kongsi. You really cooked the right dish to make the prawns yummy and lick the shell. Muaxks!

Your Fei Mau is so cute. You should play Shah Rukh Khan's Bollywood dance songs and see how the 2 cats stand on 2 legs to dance until the railway track. Bwhahahahaha

There is a trick to hypnotize your cat. Stand faraway while your fei mau is asleep. Take a spoon or stick and tap slowly tap it on the floor to attract its attention. Stop and start tapping again very slowly. It might get up and start doing moon walk towards your spoon! I did that to few cats and they went gila! You will laugh until die.
