Covid-19 MCO : Day #18 (Bacon & Prawn Fried Rice)

On day 18 of the Covid-19 MCO, I made fried rice. Not any ordinary fried rice but one with a spice paste and bacon and prawns. Nyum!

There was some leftover rice and conveniently I had some extra bacon and a packet of frozen prawns. On my last grocery run, I grabbed a packet of red and green chilies.

There were many times when my chilies went bad before I used them. I was not going to let that happen again. Not during this MCO when grocery shopping is few and far between. Hence the spice paste for frying the rice and addition of sliced green chilies into the rice.

Does that look good? It sure tasted as good as it looked. I had this for dinner.

This is the non-glamour shot of the fried rice eaten with sliced cucumbers and a squeeze of Lingham chili sauce. I could have eaten another helping if there were extras.

Today.

This morning the shoots of the shallots turned green. They were pale white yesterday after coming out of the fridge.

Yesterday

Those that had shoots were ready for planting.

Fingers crossed I can harvest my own spring onions soon.

This morning my cat threw up. I was in the kitchen when I heard her meowing and when I went out to inspect, she was beside her litter box and I heard her retching. My heart sank. She vomited water and I observed there was a small solid mass among the liquid.

I kept an eye on her and she seemed to recover and could eat her meal before settling down next to me on the sofa.

I was a little worried about her.

But as of this evening she was fine.

I love her so much.

I couldn't bear it if anything bad happened to her.

Sniffs!! I am getting sentimental over a cat. Haiz........

Yesterday's dinner was stir fried oink oink in leftover oriental bbq sauce (found in the fridge) and stir fried cabbage.

That's my partner's portion. I had a smoked turkey sandwich and got hungry past 10pm where I had a peanut butter sandwich. My intermittent fasting has gone bonkers during this MCO

For today's lunch I ordered a burger and look what happened. The mashed potatoes spilled out of the container and made a mess. Tsk!

Caakk!!
That's it for today. Talk again tomorrow.

  2. I see you use basmati rice - long grain - must be very tasty. I would love to eat your bacon prawn fried rice if it is not very spicy. Where did you get smoked turkey to make a smoked turkey sandwich? or did you buy the sandwich?

  5. Cats vomiting...usually after they eat...happens. Get ready for more of that. Cats are like babies...you have clean-up to do. If it's not repeatedly in the same day, there's nothing unduly to worry about. Sometimes it's the food, sometimes they eat too fast, sometimes it's a hairball, sometimes they may have eaten some plants.

I wish I have some bacon & ham in my fridge. I haven't been to a supermarket like Aeon since the start of the MCO for fear of the queuing and the crowd. I've been buying my foodstuff from two independent shops.

    1. I am very comforted by what you wrote. So this is normal and I should not worry. She seemed all good after that and no repeat of the vomiting today. But she did something else today. That's in today's post >.<

My partner was at Aeon on Friday evening and he said there was no crowd but most of the shelves were empty especially the bread section.

  6. I have been keeping watch all my sister's village of cats all my life. They would have to vomit out hairballs every few weeks. That's because they lick their fur everyday. If it's Persian cat, it will vomit every week like choking and watery eyes. All cats need to eat wild grass or leaves like a laxative to help them purge. I used to swing and throw my sister's Persian cat into mid air. It indirectly made her pussycat giddy and vomited all the hairballs out. The cat would give me the "thank you" look because they would suffer a bit before throwing out.
Just my 2 cents from a Cat Master.

    1. LOL! You made me laugh so much with this comment! I don't think I will swing and throw my cat in mid air lah hah..hah... OK, now I understand why they vomit and since it is a normal thing that they do,I shall not worry.

  7. You are a great cook yet all your red and green chabai turned bad??? I think you didn't wrap them correctly in the fridge. Try to use brown bag or newspaper to wrap them. After that wrap with foil or place inside plastic container to prevent moisture decay. They should last for many weeks.

    1. Thank you for the tip! I usually just leave them in the original packaging. Will do the method you suggested.

  8. I saw all the videos where people planted the exposed small onions above the soil and just trim them when it grew up to the height of 6-8 inches. After trim, it would grow again with the onion bulbs still above the soil. The trick I will follow is using the egg trays. Let me try tomorrow.

    1. Aiya! I just threw away my egg trays. Will collect again and use for planting!

  9. I wish I had your shallots. Mine not sprouting very well...and they do not even have the chance to grow. Missus will go and cut, said she leaves the bottom part, will continue growing. Tsk! Tsk! Yet to see that happening!!! So pissed off!!! And she did not even reply in that Doraemon tone with a giggle at the end! Muahahahahahaha!!!!

  10. gosh, being responsible for a cat is hard! i can imagine googling 'what does it mean if a cat pukes' - thankfully, it seems to be only as bad as a human throwing up after drinking a bit too much! :) p.s. those mashed potatoes look rather, hmmmm :D

    1. Just like having a baby hah..hah.. but I am taking it in my stride, love being my motivating factor! Yeah, pity those mashed potatoes were not properly packed (or poorly transported?). They are actually delicious and sometimes I opt for that instead of fries.

  11. Spring onion is easy to grow. Bet you will get your supply soon.

Fried rice! I have been frying leftover rice frequently since this MCO starts. Lol. Bacon and prawns sounds good combo. I used luncheon meat and prawns for fried rive before, not bacon.

  13. Bacon gives fried rice the best flavour. I make mine with brown or mixed grain rice though. The Yum List
