I Can Cook A Better Steak

These days I am quite good at cooking steaks. Not that I am blowing my own trumpet.

Once you get the hang of things, it is easy.

It is always best to have a steak cut to about an inch thick. Here I am using my non-stick pan. I cook the fat side first to render the fat to be used to cook the whole steak.

Just 2 minutes per side. I got quite a nice sear.

Then I fried 3 eggs while the steak was resting.

I had a disappointing steak experience recently.

As with my style, if my impression is not positive, I won't name the place. But I did experience something good there prior to this (will blog about it later).

It was a thin piece of steak. I requested medium rare. At one end it appeared to be the correct doneness.

At the other end it was rare. The steak was chewy and sinewy. I never learn. Never order steak at a non-steak house.
My choice of sides. The salad was too salty and the baked potato would have been better with some bacon sprinkles hee..hee... OK, lesson learnt (again).

Anyway. Some new developments at The Starling.

HWC Coffee (where Daiso used to be) opened for business.

I'll wait for the crowd to die down before I go try their coffee.

Meanwhile Chao Hotpot has shut down. It was something I expected because from observation, they were not drawing in diners.

Another casualty is Bananabro. The space it occupied is to be taken over by Mee Tarik Muslim.

Sorry no kitten updates today. Ah Mah is very tired >.<

  3. Lol...harsh and expensive lesson you have to learn again (how many times have I told you not to order steak from a non-specialist steakhouse?...wuahahahaha). Yes, you've become quite the expert at cooking steaks and you can certainly cook up a better one (that steak don't even have the char marks that you attained). I would have sent it back if the steak came out rare like that. But this underwhelming steak won't deter you from revisiting the place since you had the awesome pork ribs. *wink wink* P/S: Surprised to find out Bananabro didn't make it at Uptown since they're flourishing with so many outlets elsewhere.

    1. Yup, yup, I shall heed your advice and not waste my money anymore. I did not send back the steak because I have heard many stories about the food that comes back with "foreign DNA" LOL! It's a bummer Bananabro did not make it here. I thought they were doing all right.

  4. I think the restaurant did not thaw the steak properly before cooking which rendering the uneven doneness?
