My food pretty much consists of (the boring stuff) meat and eggs. But I do have the occasional vegetable(s)/carb (in the form of deep fried mushrooms wahahahaha!!) during family outings or even when I eat out on my own.
I am also incorporating fermented vegetables ie kimchi into my way of eating. Strangely, I am enjoying kimchi a lot more than I did before.
I avoid sugar and carbohydrates as far as possible (carbs/starch convert to sugar in our digestive system) and so far, I have not had any cravings.
I can walk around the mall and look at all manner of snacks and there is no temptation. Heck, I can even look at my brother's stash of Chinese New Year snacks and be indifferent towards it.
Well, I was carnivore from May 2022 to February 2023 (10 months). And from March 2023 to June 2023 (4 months) I deviated big time. During this period, my parents were having health issues and it was a turbulent time for all of us.
My symptoms which went into remission prior to carnivore - anxiety, depression and brain fog - came back. I also lost the mental clarity and the feeling of being present, alive and awake. What a bummer!
So in July 2023 (in fact the final week of June 2023) I resolved to get my act together and restarted the carnivore diet. My health improved but sadly I fell off again in September 2023 when both my parents were admitted to hospital. It was a mentally and emotionally challenging time all over again.
.
Well, things have improved somewhat. And now, I must focus on my own health and well being. I want to improve and maintain my mental and physical health.
I don't want to suffer from chronic disease and end up physically and mentally impaired. Sure, I can't control everything 100% but whatever aspects that are within my control, I will do it.
As such, what I put into my mouth is very important. No sugar and minimal carbohydrates. I also try to avoid processed meats but I admit that I still eat bacon and sausages from time to time because these are convenient.
I want to share with you Dr Rangan Chatterjee's podcast where he interviews Dr Robert Lustig (the author of Metabolical). I love listening to Dr Chatterjees's accent (I have a thing for the British accent), besides he is charismatic and articulate.
As for Dr Lustig, he is one that will not put you to sleep when you hear him speak. He explains things in plain English and makes it easy to understand.
I found this interview very interesting and insightful. Perhaps you will benefit from it too.
I've been avoiding sugar, sweet food and drinks but my blood sugar level is still very high. Must be all the carbs that I eat quite a lot. Gotta cut t=down on that too...and fruits as well.
ReplyDeleteCarbs will affect your blood sugar so just reduce your intake.
DeleteIt really takes a toil on the children when both elderly parents are admitted into hospitals. Good that you are back on track now. ๐ thanks for sharing these useful information and links.
ReplyDeleteSo far so good. Most welcome, good information must be shared for the benefit of all.
DeleteI'm almost in the same boat as you when it comes to my diet...except I'm not eating just (or all that much) meat...and avoiding sugar and (eating less) carbs. I've always refrain from eating sugary stuff (if I do have, it's usually just a bite or two when dining out with friends) but refraining from bread/pastries (those without sweet fillings, of course) is so very hard. The more I can't eat a certain stuff, the more I crave for it...so I don't know how you can have no craving at all of the food you cut out. Teach me....lol!
ReplyDeleteWell, after abstaining from the sinfully delicious carbs for at least a period of 3 months, I somehow developed an indifference towards those foods that I used to love. Even the taste (though I still appreciate it) did not excite me and neither did it have the addictive quality. But of course if I were to reintroduce it back to my diet (like I did when I fell of the carnivore wagon) then it becomes addictive again and I get cravings.
DeleteI am doing good so far as this is a conscious/intentional choice that I made whereas yours is on doctors orders LOL!
