By The Carton

Last Sunday I was at Aeon (as usual) and I took in the sights and sounds of the Chinese New Year shopping crowd.

Chinese New Year is just slightly more than 3 weeks away and I have not done any spring cleaning yet wahahahaha!!! Never mind lah. I will find time the next week or so to do some sprucing up. Tsk!

As I was looking at snacks and stuff, my partner came around and asked me if I wanted to buy ngaku. He pointed me to this direction.

Where two ladies were enthusiastically selecting ngaku. And as I edged closer I saw this.

Oh! Can buy ngaku by the carton, eh?

Special offer RM 53.88 per carton from 08-01-2024 to 14-01-2024.

The weight of each carton is 10kg. Wah, I tell you, peel and slice and fry ngaku until pengsan hah...hah....hah....

Two years ago I made 2kg also feel like want to die.

No need lah.

Just buy the ready made ones.

There were loads of snacks and goodies as far as the eyes can see.

Hampers. People who want to butter you up will give you hampers. I know bank officers get this a lot.

Then I spotted some premium stuff.

This one the rich towkay's wife will buy as gifts to impress their friends and relatives.

This pink one is also suitable for Valentine's Day which falls on the 6th day of Chinese New Year. How convenient.

Ah! Who likes these sour-sour stuff?

I remember some of my classmates used to eat these things to keep them awake during lectures.

These nuts make good gifts too. No, I did not buy any of these goodies.

My brother has started on his Chinese New Year goodies.

Just in case anyone was wondering, my Belle Belle is still very much with me.

She is an old girl and as sweet as ever. Though she may have that sourpuss look.

  3. I bought one big tub here for my girl - she likes these ngaku chips. RM28.00. A bit more expensive but all sliced and fried, ready to eat! I wouldn't want to go through the chore.

  4. peeling, slicing and deep frying ngaku are tedious jobs. Been there, done that, not that enjoyable, but still will continue doing that every year....just to help up my parents. They don't fancy ready made coz they are mostly salted. Also self made ones taste much better....hahaha!

    1. So good of you to help your parents. It is true homemade ones taste better since it is fresh and our oil is clean. Some of those commercial ones smell of rancid oil.

  5. Those sold by a carton are probably meant for those who make ngaku chips for sale lah...lol. I don't see how you can look at these CNY snacks and not be tempted. It's going to take a lot of willpower (on my end) to not indulge this year! T_T P/S: Yes, I was wondering about Belle2 the other day and was just about to ask. ^_~ Belle is the outdoor-type-of-gal as she seems to be always outside in all the photos. I guess she doesn't like to lepak in the house.

    1. I know of people (one of my cousin's wife) who are so industrious with so much energy that they can process large amounts of ngaku as gifts for family and friends. Don't know if she is still doing that LOL! Well, I have come to a point (I did explain in my reply to you in the previous post) where there is no willpower needed. I simply don't want to eat those snacks.

You are right, Belle Belle is very much an outdoor girl and she loves to hangout at one of the neighbor's house. I don't know what is the attraction there LOL!

  6. The premium price cookies are imported from Hong Kong (from the brand name), hence the price. They looked enticing to me, I hope some some can gift those to me too, but too bad I don't know any rich "tai tai" >_<

  7. I must head over to see the cookies as the prices are very reasonable. Even Yong Len TTDI coffee shop sells their tubs above RM30 each. "We" always received too much oranges, cookies and hampers every CNY. I guess this year is different for me. Home alone πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
