One For The Road

Last Saturday evening I decided that I would spend the remaining balance on my windfall gain (RM27.20) on one final indulgence. It had to be a cheap one.

hah..hah...hah... This cost me RM14.20.

My favorite pastries at Yit Cha Kaw Kaw Kopitiam. And their very nice iced Kopi C

Enjoy! There won't be anymore in 2024 (for me, you can eat whatever you want).

Nyum! With that I have RM13.00 left, the price of one Latte at Red Kettle (before ++). No lah, use that to pay for other things.

It was raining cats and dogs while I was enjoying my pastries and coffee.

I made a quick dash across to The Starling when I was done. This being the holiday season, there were many people at the mall. So I did not take pictures.

Except for this banner at a tea booth. I went for a blood test before the year end and I made sure that C-Reactive Protein (CRP) was included (have to pay extra).

In 2022, before I started the carnivore way of eating, my CRP reading was 1.2 and after I changed my diet, this marker went down to 0.8. So I am eager to see what my reading is (after reintroducing carbs and such) this coming Thursday.

Lunch that day was at our usual place.

Marmite Pork Ribs.

This vegetable dish, if I am not mistaken is called Four Heavenly Kings. I'm afraid it was not well executed. The vegetables still had a bite to it and there was not enough sambal.

See, we are yet to be tired of the Honey Pepper Mushrooms. Some more complain not enough wahahaha...

The Asam Fish was delicious and mum kept scooping the sauce. I guess she misses asam pedas very much. This time the fish was siakap which is better because it does not have those fine tiny bones.

This being a weekly affair, for future visits I will skip rice. I am fine with vegetables, there is no need for me to be fussy.

Last Sunday at Aeon the Chinese New Year things have come out in full force.

Hampers ....

... and synonymous with Chinese New Year (and other celebrations) are snacks!

I bet some of you already have a stash of these munchies at home tsk..tsk..tsk... LOL!

And of course, what screams Chinese New Year louder than snacks are Mandarin oranges!

Truth be told, I am not excited at all about the coming festivities (didn't even do any spring cleaning). Since I am on a tight budget, I won't be baking. Butter and baking ingredients like chocolate chips, dried cranberries, pure vanilla extract etc are very pricey. I can't afford those anymore.

Whatever money I have will be channeled to my carnivore food.

What ma? No cookies? Even Girl terkejut badak.

  1. 😂😂 Haha! I still did not finish my given windfall money. Somehow I try not to use it in case of emergency. I like to look at my phone's screen that there is little money saved there. We have to be thrifty as life is so unpredictable whether we are sick or not. I had to pay and fend my hefty expenses too in 2023. I am closing the chapter and look forward to a better 2024.

The 4 dishes you ordered are always my favourites too. I could see that the 4 Heavenly King's looked too light with little sambal paste. I also plan to make Assam Pedas dishes from ready paste sachets as they tasted good after trying it few years back. Try it and add fresh tomatoes and pineapples. Yums!

CNY is the only time all the malls and vendors make tons of money. I often spent time browsing and not buying their cookies as they are overpriced. Some boxes and canisters looked so big and colourful with just few pieces of crispy egg rolls inside!! The malls like to use them to pack into hampers to look grand. No thanks. 😂😂

    1. My windfall money RM250.00 only, so I might as well fill my stomach. LOL! I hope that at some point I can earn/save back the money that I have to contribute.

My late grandma used to add kangkung in addition to pineapples in her asam pedas. So syiok!

    1. They were all right, not as good as the ones I have had elsewhere.

  4. The Four Henvenly Kings looked like the non spicy version that I usually order to adapt to Sam's low tolerance on spicy food.

    1. If you happen to go to Subang Jaya, you could try to drop by. The food is good and prices reasonable.
