30 Day Carnivore Challenge : Day #7

Today being Sunday, I decided to be a bit fancy. In fact I was so adventurous I experimented with roasted pork belly.

I bought a few pieces of pork belly and defrosted one (in the fridge) on Friday. Then Saturday I prepped the pork belly by poking holes on the skin.

I don't have a proper tool for that and used something that's meant to be put inside a vase (to help flower stems stay in place hah..hah...). Obviously it was not so effective.

I rubbed salt on the skin and I placed the pork belly uncovered in the fridge overnight. The next day, I took the pork belly out to come to room temperature. I roasted the pork belly in the air fryer at 160C for 40 minutes.

The skin was very crunchy but because there was not enough holes in the skin, the skin was a bit hard, unlike what you get with siew yoke from the chicken rice stall.

Not bad, eh? I am quite encouraged and next time I will rub the pork with the proper siew yoke spice rub.

In fact I have also placed an order for that spiky tool to poke holes on the pork skin hah..hah..hah...

I also roasted some chicken wings.

And I also made some Pigs in a Blanket.

I used mini beef sausages and wrapped each of them with streaky bacon.

This is for dinner. There were leftovers of course. There is no way I could eat all the roast pork, chicken wings and sausages by today.

  1. What are those that look like pan-fried sago worms??? Your siew yoke looks good. I can never get the skin right!

  2. What's in a proper siew yoke rub (5-spice)? I thought they rub with salt & pepper only. Some that use too much 5-spice can be overpowering. I know that pokey tool you're referring to. Your first attempt at making siew yoke seems rather successful by the looks. Ah, pigs in a blanket is always welcome in my diet....lol! ;D

    1. I think it is 5-spice powder and some people use nam yue. I only seasoned mine with salt and it was npt bad just like that. Hopefully with the pokey tool, the skin will turn out much better.

  4. Tasty pork and chicken platter. I am tempted to have one of each but no shops sell just one item in their platter menu. At least a few. Day 7 kautim! Yay! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Š
