Covid-19 MCO : Day #58 (Nonya Chang All The Way From Melaka)

This MCO, I tell you, is all about food as far as I am concerned. I see what people eat, where they ordered it from, I get tempted and I start ordering too. Case in point - Damansara Kim Bak Chang.

Then now, Authentic Nonya Chang by Michelle Soo. I have been looking for a good nonya chang, like the one my ex-landlady gifted me when I was staying in her house more than 10 years ago.

That nonya chang (from Melaka, my ex-landlady's hometown) made a lasting impression on me and that is the taste that I want - sweetish savory with aroma of coriander (ketumbar) and candied winter melon in the filling.

My order was delivered by car on Monday (11-05-2020). The transporter missed my office and waited for me opposite 7-Eleven. So I had to walk there to save the hassle of giving her directions since her understanding of English wasn't too good.

I ordered 10 Nonya Bak Chang with Salted Egg Yolk (minimum order) and they were packed neatly in a box.

I took one out and kept it in the fridge while the rest were stashed safely in the freezer.

I ate the nonya chang yesterday evening.

Nonya chang is stained blue.

Gosh! One whole salted egg yolk and lots of meat. At RM8.00 each, so worth it. Taste wise it was good but that taste from yesteryears remains elusive. But still, I enjoyed this chang and I will buy again. My partner won't appreciate this chang because it is sweetish, not to his taste. So I no need to share hee...hee....

Anyone interested can contact Michelle Soo at 017 699 5750.

On Monday, after work, my partner had to go to the bank. So we parked somewhere opposite a pet shop.

"I know! You want to go and look at cats!" heh..heh... He knows me so well.

Allo! Allo! This scowly and yet cute fella cost RM850.00.

Wah! Gorgeous!

Aiyo! RM1,580.00.

This poor thing looked quite miserable. I don't have the sort of money to own stylo mylo cat.

This one free.

On Monday I ate the last of my Kueh Bingka Labu. It did not taste as nice as on the day it was baked and the day after. I reckon this kueh can only keep well for two days.

My partner had another errand to run, so I waited in the car.

This Hongdae Comma Hairdo took over the spot vacated by Du Viet. All these salun kecantikan is lost upon me. I prefer kedai makan.

The Starling is still very quiet.

Some shops have opened for business. I find it quite a hassle (though I understand that it is necessary) having my temperature taken and scanning the QR codes.

Effective yesterday (Wednesday) dining-in is allowed and I saw some people having a meal at Kam Kee Cafe.

I will wait a while before I dine in at restaurants.

This new normal is quite miserable and I wonder for how long we will have to endure.

I went to Daiso to cheer myself up replenish some supplies.

Today I did not go to work and this morning I saw my cat and her boy2.

Very coy as usual.

And then .....

... oooohhh...

.... friend-friend...

... how sweet...

Well, they get along now it appears. OK lah. Mommy accept. I won't mind adopting him but he stays outside.

    1. Come to think of it, the first nonya chang that I ate and fell in love with did not have salted egg. Maybe this is a variation from the traditional. I'll have to agree that my free cat is a very warm and loving pet!

  2. I sure would love to try this one even though the salted egg sticks out like a sore thumb - not something to be found in nyonya chang. There may be the or nee (yam paste), the kao lak (chestnuts) but whatever it is, if it's nyonya, I wanna try. Went round and round in search of one in Melaka, saw rave reviews in blogs...the lady so snotty like her chang the best in the world, not that great. Nicer ones at Katong, Singapore...and in Kuching.

    1. I want to try other nonya chang in search of the one That I fell in love with. Hoping to try the Penang nonya chang if my partner goes back to Penang after the MCO is lifted.

  3. The generous portion of salted egg in the chang attracted me the most...but then when you said it's sweetish, not so much anymore! ;D Aiyo, since the minimum order is 10 pcs, why didn't you get some other varieties to try. You could have gotten your partner a Hokkien chang...then maybe he might say "ho chiak"...lol!

Upkeep of a non-premium cat is already expensive...let alone a premium one (though they do look very cute but our free ones are cuter, don't you think?...hehehe!). Cookie needs at least RM200 a month for food, bath & vet visits, so I can imagine a stylo-mylo cat will be easily double or triple that. Anyway, there are many strays that need our love and a home, so it's better to adopt one that to buy one. P/S: That hamsap boy2 want to kiss2 and then hump2 your girl later...hahaha! :D

The new normal is quite a sorry state. For now, I dare not even dine-in at coffee shops let alone restaurants with air-conditioning. I wonder when I'll get over this fear...haiz. :( I think it'll take an even longer time for people to get back to the cinemas (when they reopen).

    1. Yes, I know you are not in favor of sweet taste especially in savory food like chang. That means that you won't like Terengganu or Kelantan curries (unless they are the ones modified to suit the taste of peopel from the west coast). Yes, I could have bought other chang for variety. Next order!

Agreed. I did not realize it would cost so much to own a pet until I had my cat. These males..haiz...LOL!

That's my thinking too - I miss going to the movies!

  4. Good that you enjoyed the nyonya Chang. I guess the yester years taste of ketumbar is missing from this nyonya Chang.
