Covid-19 MCO : Day #53 (Overcooked Steak)

Today I overcooked a piece of steak. Bah! I have to adjust my timing. I set a timer beside me and many times, I have no confidence in my judgement and I always err on the side of overcooking.

This is a piece of Angus grain fed ribeye (RM67.20).

I used my trusty cast iron pan, heated to very hot.

One of the best things that my auntie passed on to me. This belonged to her and she told me she never used it.

I rested the steak for 5 minutes.

I was aiming for medium rare but I overshot. Never mind. I will do better with the next one.

I roasted some broccoli .....

.... and potatoes but the potatoes were taking too long to brown (I parboiled them first) so .....

.... I pan fried them in the cast iron pan since it was already hot and ready.

That made for a very hearty and satisfying lunch. The steak I must say is better than the ones that I had been buying from Jaya Grocer. I am happy I have found a reliable supplier in The Honest Butcher. That's what I need, a butcher who is honest and gives me what I paid for.

Somebody was very cross that I did not share my steak with her.

This is the first time that I shot her using my DSLR

There was not enough natural light and the ISO went bonkers.

I have had no professional training so the photos look all right to me.

This is a sneak peek to my kueh bingka labu which is cooling right now as a I write. It shrunk after coming out of the oven. Please God, let it taste nice hee..hee..hee...

  5. We love steak but I have not learned to cook steak properly. Girl can get emo. Kesian her not getting even a piece of steak from you. I love kueh bingka labu. Happy weekend.

  6. Aiyoyo, overcooked? And it was your most expensive piece of steak too! T_T That's why I leave the cooking in capable hands...which are not my hands! ;) But I'm sure it still tastes good when it's a piece of good meat to begin with. Never mind, you still have four pieces all to yourself since your lahling doesn't eat beef....less men, more share, I say...wahahahaha! :D

Your ginger cat's colour looks even prettier shot with your DSLR. So clear that all the bulu-bulu can see. I can see Girl's ear infection has not recovered fully (as some of the hair is much shorter in that ear). Hair loss in cats is a tell-tale sign of some kind of infection.

    1. Ah...I did not want it rare and to get medium rare, it is so tricky. But yes, it was still good, just salt and pepper made it wonderful.

I checked her ear and the redness has subsided. Perhaps still recovering.

  7. Wow! Your steak is so expensive. I guess the cow lived in luxury farms with daily massage. I don't mind eating overcooked meat sometimes as I would pour some sauce over as a consolation. my wife also owns a cast iron pan and it so heavy when I have to wash it.

I studied photography as a subject in the States for few semesters where we had to use manual cameras and develop all our photos by ourselves. It made me a good judge to identify excellent photographs but I am very lazy and least bothered when comes to take photos today. Don't you notice my blog photos are quite boring and bad when it comes to food. I suggest that you take photos of your Fei Mau with colourful backdrop and she will look fabulous.

Tips to share on feeding your cat with supplements or medicine. She might catch cold or have constipation which can cause severe sickness in future, so you need to keep her healthy to stay with you until you are 90 years old. They are usually sold in the form of cream and you dab them onto her paws to lick and lick until habis. Coconut oil is good for her skin and fur. I should have been a Veterinary Doctor since I had to feed so many cats that were not mine. LOLOL

    1. I still cannot understand shutter speed, aperture size and ISO! When I retire, I want to go full time on photography and learn properly. Now I just don't have the time.

I will look into supplements for my fei mau.

  12. I am terrible at cooking meat. I always overcook it. I am so impatient, I do other things at the same time and then forget to check soon enough. Monica, The Yum List

  13. Read that post from Sean too and so tempting to buy by looking at those beautifully marbled steaks. But I worry that I'll ruin the meat as I'm bad in controlling the heat and timing when cooking steak :(
