Covid-19 MCO : Day #61 (Same Old Food Prep)

It is Sunday and I was feeling particularly industrious this morning. I got up at 4:30am and by 5:30am I was already pling pling pliang pliang in the kitchen.

The menu for my weekday lunch (Monday to Thursday, Friday Grabfood, yeah!) - brown rice, roasted chicken, roasted broccoli, roasted cauliflower, roasted cherry tomatoes and deep fried tauhu. Lebih kurang like my food prep the other day.

These were my raw materials - marinated chicken legs, broccoli, cauliflower and cherry tomatoes. The tauhu were in the fridge and the brown rice was cooking.

After spending time in the oven, they were all cooked by 8:00am. Like opening chap fan stall like that wahahaha!!

I had to go out early to the pork shop and then to Aeon for my weekly grocery run with my partner. So I left the assembly of my lunch prep for later.

All together four containers for lunch.

I like a mish mash of everything. It makes lunch at the office enjoyable.

The previous week's portion size was a tad small, I mean it was all right, just nice but I could eat more.

I ate my lunch at 1:00pm but by 4:00pm, I was a little peckish. So this week I increased portion size just a little bit.

Because I was feeling industrious, I decided to prep for dinner too. Last week it was soup, which is a very practical thing to cook. But today, I was so super rajin.

Two sets of two meals. The first is brown rice, pan fried salmon fillet, sauteed mushrooms, roasted broccoli and asparagus. Some people may not like precooked fish but I am OK with it.

The other one is brown rice, German pepper sausages,  sauteed mushrooms, asparagus and stir fried kale.

Aiyo. So much work. I won't do this again next week. I will stick to soup. So much easier.

This morning (while the chicken legs were roasting) I was quite pleased that my cat settled into the armchair. Ah...I finally get back my sofa!

But ....

Mommy : Haiks! What are you doing here?

Girl : Ma, I want to sit with you.

Girl : Can or not?

Girl : Please?

Mommy : Okie...Mommy sayang punya pasal...

To my relief (I covered the sofa with blue towel when I was not sitting on it) my cat slept of the rug this afternoon. But I won't be surprised if she hops on the sofa while I am watching TV.

  1. Your roasted chicken legs are with bones...so, how did you cut them up so nicely? They look like they're without bones. I see the marinade is wet...unlike your usual use of bottled spices. So, what's the marinade made up of? Coz they look all dark, sticky...and yummy :) Yes, you can certainly open a chap fan stall...I'll be your first customer! :D Ya, I'm one of those who don't like precooked fish. Since you're food prepping salmon, you don't need to fry in oil for crispy skin, you might as well do poached salmon...even healthier! ;)

When you're seated at the sofa, your girl will want to sit next to you...Daiso or no Daiso...lol! :D

    1. I took the trouble to debone the chicken hee..hee.. The marinade is made up of many sauces. I will share the recipe soon. I ate the salmon yesterday (after reheating in the microwave oven) and it tasted quite nice to me. I had to share some with my cat hah..hah...

You got that right, she hopped right on >.<

  2. i had too much coffee yesterday, so when you woke up this morning, i finally managed to get to sleep! :D all the prepped meals look very appetising and well-balaned though (but i'd be very tempted to eat the salmon now instead of storing it) - if i were working in the office in the morning, this would give me something to look forward to for lunch! :D

    1. Oh dear! I get that too when I drink coffee too late in the afternoon. I understand your sentiment about pre-cooked salmon. Most would prefer to eat it freshly cooked.

  8. Did you roast the chicken leg, the broccoli, the cauliflower, the cherry tomatoes separately? Can they be roasted together?

    1. I roasted them separately. If you have a big pan and a big oven, can be roasted together but they will be done at different times. So have to monitor and remove those that are cooked first.

  10. I love your captions and all the photos of Girl Girl especially the one with the mouth opened asking "can or not". Did you hug hug her to you after taking all the photos? You could publish a collection of comic strips with girl girl with all these captions. I will buy to read and keep!

  11. German sausages sounds so good - I've been eating the supermarket ones, can't find any gourmet sausages since the lockdown. Beggars can't be choosers.

Indeed! I'm just like you. I don't see any need to make a fuss over how well cooked the fish is, whether it's straight from the oven or pan, this cannot, that cannot, use a thermometer. No need lah, I just eat!

  12. Your girl really has "good life"! She knows how to find a good comfortable spot and at the same time, get pampered by the queen of the house! On food prep, I really have not done this before... I only cook when I want to eat, that is why before the MCO, I seldom cook, too lazy! Now no choice... hahahaa...

  13. All the stray cats would be very jealous of Girl Girl having abundance of food & love :) Lately there was a stray cat which I had been feeding always parked itself outside my gate looking longingly inside my house like The Little Match Girl hoping I could take him/her in as the pet. I felt very sorry that I could not as I am having 2 cats which can't see eye to eye. The stray cat died last week due to illness. Very sad ending.

    1. hah..hah... Perhaps... Oh dear, I am so sorry to hear that the stray died. You know, these days I feel very sad when I read about cats dying or suffering. I really have a soft spot for them. I see that you are a cat owner, I mean two cats! wow! One already gives me a lot of work. LOL!

  16. You are really like a chef of the hotel's F&B that needs to prepare Breakfast Buffet for the guests and go pling pliang pling pliang at 4.30am! I would still be in dreamland faraway with Ali Baba and his 40 Thieves.

I love the colours and cube sizes of your mish mash meals that make eating so shiok & happy. I would just need to pour some sauces from Kewpie to perfect them.
