Eh, Where is My Rice?

My last visit to Rice & Pot Empire@Damansara Uptown was early this year. I decided to revisit because I remembered the food was to my liking.

Best of all, this time I can have carbs! So I ordered the The Ultimate Pork Indulgence in tomato pork bone soup with Pow Rice (whatever that is).

The rice was nowhere in sight. I waited a little bit more and just as I was about to summon the server, I decided to check my soup.

Aiks! The rice was in the soup all along. So is this what is known as "pow rice"? Rice mixed into soup? I wouldn't know.

So on my next visit, I made sure to write on the order chit to "serve the rice in a separate bowl". That should do the trick.

I added an order for the vegetable of the day.

Alamak...yau mak.... Such a small portion and at RM4.80, this is so not worth it.

I like the pork patty that is part of the meal.

The rice, as requested was served in a separate bowl.

But I realized that it was already doused with soup and "drained". Haiz.... next time I must say I want the rice neat, no soup. I am very OCD when it comes to rice. I must have it "clean", with no chap (gravy). So this spoiled my lunch a bit.

Then I went over again another day to try the Taiwanese Lu Rou Fan with a pork patty added on.

It was a very small portion. Too small. And too oily.

I won't be having this again.

  1. This is strange to see rice being submerged inside the gravy! I would eat that way sometimes but not being served that way. Haiks...

On the mention of you being an OCD aunty, I just crowned my wife and her few aunties for being voted as Queen of OCD with 1st, 2nd & 3rd runner ups! I am so tempted to write a post just comparing the sufferings of mine for being surrounded by very chronic OCD aunties. Luckily my wife is just a mild OCD person which is incurable. What do they have in common? Collecting containers! Muahahahaha

How to write an OCD post?

  3. Oh dear, I've just been handed membership to your OCD group...for collecting containers....wakakakaka! :D I'm ok with rice in soup...I do that all the time at home but if you had asked for the rice separately, I would think they'd give you plain rice instead of rice doused with a bit of the soup! >_< P/S: What are those little golden piggies for...to take home? Hehehe! ;D

  4. Oh, I see! I am OCD about a lot of things too. One of them is when dining with friends that all food is dished from serving spoons not individual spoons/ forks. I can't eat from the same dish if someone has dipped their own fork into it!

    1. Ah! I am the same too. Not hygienic to have other people's saliva in a shared dish >.<

  5. I m ok with rice in soup...though the rice might soaked up after awhile. Now I learned a new term 'pow rice'...lol!

  6. The server could have forgotten or not used to serving rice separately from the soup. I too prefer the rice not submerged in soup. Were the gold piggies for sale?

  7. I suspect the word pow is 泡 which means steep or infused or soak so pow rice would mean soaked rice or rice infused with soup. I guess must order this pow rice without rice and then add on white plain rice after your order of soup is served in order to get white plain rice.

    1. You must be right, or else the rice won;t be soaked like that. Hmm..I must follow your suggestion. LOL!

  10. Cute piggies.

Lol. They should explain their dishes to customers. I never expect rice in soup. If noodle, it is normal.
