Prawn Noodle King@Damansara Uptown

Finally. After two failed attempts to eat here (once when the place was packed and another time I went on a Monday which is their day off), I had the opportunity to visit. Best of all, I had my partner with me. He was also curious about Prawn Noodle King after I told him about this outlet when it first opened.

We were there on a Friday evening for dinner. In fact, when I suggested prawn noodles, he gave me an incredulous look since he heard me swearing a few days ago that I'm going low carb again. Hah!

When we walked in, I could immediately smell prawns hee..hee...

Here you have 7 variations of prawn noodles from the most basic (The Original@RM8.90) to the most decadent (Four Heavenly@RM46.90).

My partner chose the Roast Pork while I had the Mantis Prawns. We also ordered a Penang Lor Bak and Prawn Fritters to share. For drinks it was a lo han guo each.

Service was fast. The food is delivered from the kitchen via that small window above where the server then sprinkles fried shallots and pork lard (taken from those two bowls by the window) onto the noodles.

My partner's prawn noodles with roast pork. He was confounded by the addition of fried pork lard. I don't remember ever having pork lard with prawn noodles that I have eaten before elsewhere. By the way, the pork lard was fresh and crispy, unlike what Kris experienced here.

Mine with mantis prawns. I'm afraid I did not like the mantis prawns at all. They appear to have been battered and deep fried but the texture was more like floss. I can't find any other way to describe it.

As far as the broth is concerned, I think it was nice, robust enough for me. I asked my partner what he thought and he said it was all right.

By way, my partner visited Char Koay Teow King on his own after my visit and he too was not impressed. He complained that he had to pay RM1.00 to add egg or something like that. After his meal, he had to go for chicken rice because he was still hungry. Sounds familiar. Hah!

The Penang Lor Bak and Prawn Fritters was just ok. My partner remarked that Penang is used just to lure people into ordering this.  He's right. We got sucked in too hee..hee..

I found the drink too sweet. But that's just me.

My partner "donated" two pieces of his roast pork to me (but declined my mantis prawns) and I found it to be just all right.  I also had their sambal which did not make much of an impression on me.

Honestly, I prefer prawn noodles as they are with no fancy toppings.

Overall, the prawn noodle broth was quite decent just that I was not too thrilled with the mantis prawns (and roast pork). If I do return, I would just have the plain original prawn noodles. And perhaps I'll tell them to hold the pork lard.

  1. This eatery must be a branch of the one in OUG which I have tried once. I am ok with what I ate there because prawn mee is not in my list of fav food though prawns are my fav. so I guess you will be back for their basic prawn mee.

  2. Haiyah! I was hoping that you would give thumbs up and lure a Penang lang to go there. It is funny that they put fried pork lard inside.

I still think the TTDI's Yong Len has better soup compared to others, if we can ignore their stingy prawns and broken fried shallots.

    1. Well, they can't be more stingy than the one here where I had to strain my eyes to look for the two miserable smallish prawns...haiz! :P

  4. Aiyak, you had the same two things I disliked from my visit (and you disliked them both too)! >.< Thank God that you at least had fresh pork lard. But I must say your broth at least looks more robust and thicker and they were more generous with the amount here than the one I had in OUG. Hmmm, the texture of the mantis prawns is like floss huh...that could be an apt description since it's mushy and powdery...hahaha! :D And it's just not you (who can take sweet better than me), the drinks are overly sweet, I felt like drinking sugar syrup (I see they've resorted to using these pre-packed drinks here as well).

All said and done, this is still the better of the two (which isn't a compliment when it's best of the worst). My Prawn Noodle King post has garnered even more comments from my 'silent' readers. I guess they needed an avenue to vent their anger at how terrible the ckt is and why they had to pay extra for egg (in a plate of ckt mind you!) just like how your partner complained!

    1. I wanted to experience your bad experience wahahaha!! It was not too bad except for the mantis prawns and roasted pork. Well, it looks like the CKT King has garnered much negative response. Let's see how long they stay open!

If I visit this place, I'll go for the original version without any topping :P

    1. LOL! So that means SG prawn mee is with pork lards. The regular ones sold on Penang and over here, no pork lard.
