Yesterday my brother gave me a pleasant surprise. I was chatting with mum at his house when the door bell rang. Mum asked me to go outside the pick up a delivery.
Oh! Cake delivery! The delivery man asked me to open the box to check and then he took a snapshot as evidence that the cake was delivered in good order.
There was a card attached to the box.
hee...hee...hee... In case you are not familiar and wondering why the poor grammar, that caption is from the movie The Help.
I was very touched by my brother's gesture. It was so sweet of him to buy the cake. Then later he went out to buy lunch. When he got back, I spotted his cat and again attempted to make friends with it.
Look at the kitty. Refused to wish me happy belated birthday. Tsk!
Then it finally looked at me. Hmm....
Lunch. Chicken rice with poached chicken, roast duck, char siew and nga choy (beansprouts). Dad has made good progress in his recovery and was able to enjoy the chicken rice. It was a nice change for dad as he has been eating porridge all this time.
That was a very good lunch. I love chicken rice! My favorite is the poached chicken.
The char siew was also pretty good. I love the fatty charred bits.
The duck was a little dry but I still enjoyed it.
Not only did he get me a cake and a good lunch, my brother also got me a birthday present.
Eight tai paus! wahahahaha!!! These are for me to freeze and enjoy as and when I want.
Back home, I packed each one into a freezer bag and into the freezer they went.
Now for the cake.
A solitary candle was lit and my parents and my brother sang the Happy Birthday song. I was so moved I almost cried but I pulled myself together. I am such a softie.
My wish before blowing the candle - For mummy and papa to have a long happy and healthy life. I have nothing to wish for myself.
The cake is a Vanilla Mille Crepe with caramelized nuts topping. Wow! It was delicious.
I was quite full from the chicken rice or else I would have had a second slice hee..hee...
There were leftovers from lunch which I took home for dinner. And I had a slice of cake for dessert.
Well, that was a wonderful birthday celebration. I is so happy!
Why are you blogging on a Sunday?
ReplyDeleteWhy am I reading your blog on Sunday too? Muahahaha
I wish I have a sweet brother like yours. Please ask him to adopt me. I also love to eat charred char siew bits. Even cancerous also don't care la.
Now this is a brilliant idea to freeze my pau dumplings as SOS food when I am hungry at supper.
My weekend schedule is quite tight these days so since I am blog hopping on Sunday, I might as well publish a post. Hah..hah.... Yes, frozen pau is very convenient for emergency food.
DeleteSo lovely of your brother. Just a good sibling. Happy birthday to you.
ReplyDeleteAwesome mille crepe. Oh my, the topping.
I love chicken rice too. Meant to have it for lunch today but it was sold out. So end up, we having Indian for lunch. Lol.
Thank you again, Rose! The mille crepe was so yummy. Between Indian food and chicken rice...hmmm... I think I choose Indian LOL!
DeleteHappy Birthday Ah Hong Chee...
ReplyDeleteI thought I will get to see Ah Hong Chee picture, but I was disappointed, nope, there is no picture of Ah Hong Chee ..

ReplyDeleteThank you, Mun! This is the second time I have eaten a mille crepe and it was better than the first one.
DeleteWhere did your brother buy the poached chicken? It looks so yummy so golden skin. And are all the baos having the same fillings? Are they from your favourite bao shop (may I know which shop)?
ReplyDeleteI did not ask him but I presume it is from 1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice. He normally busy from there. All the baos have the same filling and it is from a shop in Taman Megah. Along same row as Restoran 134.
DeleteThe poached chicken looks good and tasty and pls pls give me that fatty charred bits of the char siew. You have a wonderful brother. You have nothing to wish for yourself because you are a blessed person with everything that you need and want. The cake looks so lovely, i like milli crepe cake too

ReplyDeletehee..hee.. those baos will last me another 7 Sundays (ate one last night).
DeleteHmmm...a post like that and a lot of people would want to adopt your brother...wuahahahaha! :D I only love poached chicken if they're those special breed...like choi yin kai or kampong chicken where the meat has more taste. Now where did those bird's eye chillies came from in your tapau-ed rice? ;) Is there anything you don't freeze? If I have a mille crepe cake, I would pick vanilla too but would choose not to have any topping. Happy belated birthday, my dear.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kris! Well, I don't want to share my brother with anyone hah..hah... That chicken I believe is choi yin kai, my favorite. Paus are so freezable hee..hee... Wah, so sharp you eyes, you noticed the cili padi. Those came from my garden, my miserable harvest of only two chilies >.<
