Mr Fish@The Starling

I haven't visited Mr Fish@The Starling for quite some time because I felt that standards have dropped compared to what I used to enjoy during my initial visits in 2017.

One weekend my brother and I went for a movie (Crazy Rich Asians) and I suggested that we try Prawn Noodle King for lunch. Alas, it being a weekend, the place was packed.

Not wanting to wait, we headed back to The Starling and to make things easy (and since I haven't been for a while) I suggested that we eat at Mr Fish. My brother readily agreed and it is one of his regular makan places.

I noticed that the menu has been revamped since my last visit and there are some new items offered.

My brother opted for the milky broth, something I have shied away from for fear of disliking any milky taste.

My brother likes this because there is salted vegetables in the broth and according to him, there is no milk taste at all. Maybe I should get this on my next visit.

I went for the curry laksa (which disappointed me on a visit last year) and found that it was very good and I enjoyed it very much. I think my faith in Mr Fish has been restored.

My brother ordered two sides for us to share.

The deep fried squid was well seasoned and fried till crispy. This is highly recommended if you like squids.

I also enjoyed these beancurd skin wrapped fish cakes. Very nice eaten with sweet chili sauce.

It looks like I may come back to enjoy the fish noodles. Hope that Mr Fish stays consistent.

  2. You are making me fatter by following your trials! I went to eat Pork Noodles at the Champs and the whole place was packed like noisy sardine. Looks like I will visit Mr Fish next as it has been a long time since my visit during their opening. I remembered they had milk in my broth. Can their curry laksa be better than Annie-1?

    1. LOL! Their curry laksa is different style from Annie-1's. If I had to choose, Annie-1 wins :)

  4. I wonder whether the curry laksa is the same as the one they sell in their TeoChew Curry Laksa stall in Starling food court. Your brother is right. I also don't find the milky broth milky but my spouse cannot take the milky broth because he does not drink milk at all, does not like milk.

  6. Since we have quite similar tastes, I find the milky broth has no milk taste, just some sweetness compared to the ching version, so you can give it a try (though personally I still prefer the latter). You should have stolen a sip from your brother's bowl! :D I don't think I've eaten a curry laksa that comes with fish! ;) From the looks of it, it has the right colour (and I see you can opt for laksa noodles). The deep fried squid looks more like baby octopus, I'd enjoy that for sure.

    1. Yeah, I should have tasted my brother's soup hee..hee.. I find the curry laksa quite pleasing, a bit different from the usual one (I am using Annie-1's for reference) but nice all the same. Ah, baby octopus! Yes, I believe you will enjoy that.

  7. both noodles look good, I m fine with milky broth for fish noodles although I dislike milk. Usually the milky taste has been overpowered by the salted veggie, so that would be fine for me. Perhaps u should try a sip of that broth from ur brother's bowl before deciding whether to order it next time.

  9. Glad that you enjoyed this visit and food turned out better than your previous experience.

I seldom order the milk broth when I have fish. Sometime it could be too rich and milky to my liking so I usually go for the normal and clear broth.

I think I am going to catch the movie in dvd. Couldn't wait to see our Sarawak-born Henry Golding's debut movie. ^^
