His Type of Food

Now that it is the fasting month, it is next to impossible to get a seat at Chili's on our Friday evening dates. Chili's is one of the popular spots for breaking fast and the only way to avoid the crowd is to arrive early.

So to be practical, we eat at Damansara Uptown. We decided to revisit Restoran Yok Tho Hing. When we got there we noticed new faces among the one or two familiar ones. We learnt from the captain that there was a change in management last year.

The menu is still the same and thankfully, the food was still good. That evening, as usual, we ordered four dishes.

Claypot pork ribs with pumpkin.

Marmite chicken. My favorite hee..hee...

Stir fried sweet potato leaves.

And taufoo with petola (angled loofa).

It was a very good meal and a nice change for my partner who often tolerates my choice of "funny funny" food heh...heh....heh...

Then on another Friday, we returned.

We had the sweet and sour garoupa fish fillet. Another favorite of mine.

Ah! The food tastes better with minced garlic, cili padi and soya sauce. I just whacked the saucer that the chilies were served in instead of using the proper sauce plate. I was going to finish the whole lot anyway.

Sizzling tofu with minced meat and salted fish

Four variety vegetables, the non-spicy variant to accommodate my partner.

Last dish was the lemon chicken which was not so successful in the lemon sauce department. The sauce was watery and tasted of cordial. Nope, they did not use real lemons. Won't order this again.

Again, we enjoyed our dinner and we would definitely make this place our regular Friday/weekend dinner venue.

  1. taste like cordial is a big no no to me. These dishes are those types that my parents in law would love to eat. I am ok to eat them too, just not my top choices.

  2. Your 'his type of food' is also my 'his type of food', so I usually don't blog when we eat Chinese..haha...as it's the same old same old boring food (and by that I meant mine, not yours). He can have the same thing over and over again and not be bored...and, like you, he would scoop the whole plate of garlic over the cili api and pour soy over that (no need to bother with small saucer plates)! Lemon chicken in Chinese restaurants always taste like that...you can see from the intense colour that it cannot possibly be fresh lemon juice (it's probably bottled lemon essence!). The portions seem quite small here, so 4 dishes isn't too much to handle.

    1. Oh dear. Our other half is similar too. This is getting scary. wahahaha!!!! And oh, yours loves his garlic and cili api but mine will only touch the garlic, and even then he is suspicious if the cutting board is clean hee..hee.. I have only had good lemon chicken once or twice only but I can't remember from where. I suppose lemons are expensive hence the use of artificial flavoring.

  4. i think my favourite among your orders would be the sweet potato leaves - it's one of my favourite vegetables, so tender and full-bodied in its leafiness, with that perfect feel-good vegetable flavour :D

  7. I would try avoiding lemon chicken coz most of the time they taste artificial and funny. I would prefer marmite chicken or sweet & sour sauce.
