Ole Orale! : Orale@Damansara Uptown

As I have mentioned in an earlier post, there are many restaurants/cafes that have closed down in my area. And in their place many eateries have taken over the space vacated. Some sadly suffered the same fate while others prevailed.

Two Fridays ago, while running errands I spotted Orale across the street (opposite UOB bank).  Aiyaiyai! Mexican food! This space used to be occupied by Hails Soft Serve I made a mental note to drop by the following week.

And then to my delight, the following week Sean featured Orale in his blog and I got me a sneak peak. Oh! I liked what I saw. So the very next day, I marched myself over to Orale.

Get your cutlery, serviettes and water from the counter.
Orders are made at the counter and the menu is brief and simple.

There are three types of protein - beef, chicken and lamb served as either Taco, Burrito or Quesadilla. There is also a Carne Asada Burrito (contains grilled topside steak instead of pulled beef).

And then there is the Nachos (chicken or beef) and Corn Salad. For drinks, I was very pleased that they serve coffee.

After you have made your order and paid, you are given this thingy and the food will be brought to your table.

Of course madam had to have her coffee (Long Black RM7.00). They serve very decent coffee here.

After a short wait, I terkejut badak when my Pulled Beef Barbacoa Burrito (RM16.00) was served.

Yes, just like that. No plate. But Sean got his in a nice basket wor ..... Some more they cut it into two for him..... wahahaha! Of course that was under different circumstances for better presentation in the photo shoot.

Actually, I don't mind it at all because a plate would be redundant for the burrito. Let's look inside the foil.

Mexican popiah.
Then I wrapped it back up and took a bite.

Oi! Sedap mak oi! I can taste Mexican spices in there (though I found it a bit on the mild side) and there was some creaminess from the guacamole and I was happy. So happy. Because I can eat carbs and this burrito was so darn delicious!

A server brought me these two bottles of sauces and by the looks of it, their customers are voracious sauce eaters (maybe to amp up the flavors). Since the burrito was already so tasty, I did not need any reinforcements.

This burrito is very filling and if you are a small eater, you'll need to share.

I had to come back for more!

This time I had the Pulled Lamb Barbacoa Quesadillas (RM16.00). I thought it was really good.

Also a very generous and satisfying serving. Small eaters, please share. Madam of course had no trouble polishing it all off heh..heh... It was a bit messy to eat because the quesadilla is floppy and the filling oozes out. So best to get some cutlery for easier eating.

Seating at the inner area is more cosy and pleasing. Take note that Orale has changed their operating hours. It's now open from 12:00pm to 10:00pm. I guess 10:00am is too early to eat burritos hee..hee...

I think I got addicted to the food and I came back yet again. It was past 12:30pm when I noted a healthy crowd forming outside. Yes, yes, come, come, support, support!

I had the Carne Asada Burrito (RM17.00) where the protein is grilled topside steak instead of pulled beef. The flavor was more muted compared to the pulled beef. So I poured some of the bottled Salsa de Chipotle but I did not like the sauce. It was too sour. Next time I'll stick to either the pulled beef or lamb.

If you enjoy Tex-Mex food, you must come here. I'll be back for sure to try the tacos and nachos. Ole!

  1. There is a new mexican shop in midvalley mall selling the same items. I didn't look properly at the name so don't know whether it is the same chain or not. I will tapao the steak burrito the next time I visit starling mall.

    1. I love the flavors of Tex Mex food. I used to only enjoy it at Chilis.

  2. Lol. They didn't expect to serve you a plate for your sandwich. The burrito wasn't wet and messy so it was fine without plate.

Very colourful and vibrant place for a lunch or quick bite.

  3. Apa ini? Double treatment kah? They do not know you are a full-time celebrity food blogger too? I certainly would complain if I were you. So cilaka one, eyes one big, one small.

I do like Mexican though and I do like what you had...and yes, so many places have closed down and others open but do not last very long. Sad. #inilahharapankita

  8. Looks like you enjoyed it a lot more than Sean did...haha! ;) If there's one cuisine I don't like as much, it'd be Mexican and Tex-Mex. The only thing I would eat is probably the tacos :)

  10. ooo, i didn't realise this was formerly hail's - a bit sad they've closed, since this is now the perfect weather for soft serves! it seems like orale might have staying power, since their food is good and very well-priced for the portions - so they have no problem attracting customers! :) i think you'll like the tacos - maybe nearly as much as burritos! though they can be a bit messy to eat too, since they're so thickly stuffed, heheh :D :)
