What I Had For Dinner Last Sunday

I have been eating too many carbs lately. Yes. I had a sudden obsession with rice and ever since I revived my love of baking, I have been eating cakes. Bah!

So to balance it off, I decided to have me a vege laden dinner last Sunday. I managed to get some asparagus and I roasted these with broccoli with a sprinkling of bacon.

I know. There is too little bacon. This was only 2 rashers, leftovers from another 2 dishes I cooked.

I put the asparagus and broccoli on a baking tray, tossed them in some olive oil and roasted the lot (with bacon bits scattered on the broccoli florets) at 180C for 15 minutes.

Since asparagus cooks faster, I removed them after 10 minutes and let the broccoli roast for another 5 minutes.

Of course I did not eat them plain, I can't do that. I  need  more flavor and more protein. I added a grilled sausage and a  generous drizzle of roasted sesame dressing.

So good!

  1. You like a generous drizzle of roasted sesame dressing (Kewpie, I assume) on your salads...I like a light drizzle of Thousand Island (Kewpie, of course) instead. You roast your broccoli at 180 for 15 mins...I roast mine at 200 for 30 mins (yours probably still has a crunchy bite and mine is charred and soft, and that's how I like it). But same result, I presume....just as delicious..hehe! ;)

    1. At 200C for 30 minutes that would be overcooked for me hee..hee... but there would be more charring and more flavor. Perhaps I shall try that this weekend. And yes, I am a fan of Kewpie dressings!

  2. I just bought a big chunk of broccoli last time. It's not for me but my tortoise to munch while I am away to Jakarta tomorrow. I will add cauliflower for him too.

I will follow your recipe next week since it is so easy to make. I will add crispy luncheon meat instead of sausages.

  3. That's a lot more bacon than what you'll get in your saad if you have that outside.

  4. You just gave me an idea how to put to use my underutilised oven/toaster, roasted broccoli and asparagus with bacon bits, good idea!

    1. It's really delicious and better still if you drizzle the Kewpie roasted sesame dressing.

  6. What a delicious healthy meal! I can eat this everyday and you know it! Yummy! If I am diligent enough, I would replace the bacon with smoked salmon or prawns, hehehehe!

  8. Yummy!

My current favourite dressing is soy sesame dressing.

I've been taking a small salad portions of leaves and beans for lunch for over a month and I'm actually surprised I wasn't hungry until it's dinner time!

  9. Last week I ate a lot of broccoli which I bought from the supermarket. I steamed the broccoli which is the easiest to suit this lazy auntie. Your broccoli dinner looks and tastes so much better than mine. Lol!
