Kahuna Poke@Damansara Uptown (Closed)

Guess what? I had another dream come true when I stumbled upon a newly opened poke bowl joint in Damansara Uptown. I already had lunch at my chap fan dream come true and was on my way back from sorting out some matters at Telekom when I spotted this.

Wah! Hawaiian style poke bowl! I must visit real soon.

And so I did the very next day. By the way, Kahuna Poke is located at the same shop lot where The Good Batch is.

The price of the poke bowl depends on which type of protein you choose and if you added any extras. The regular would be salmon (RM19.90), tuna (RM20.90) and octopus (RM22.90). There is also a vegetarian option with tofu (RM13.90) and tempeh (RM14.90).

This was my first poke bowl with salmon, red cabbage, Japanese cucumber, onion and salmon skin crisp. My base was seasonal greens (no rice) and I chose the signature shoyu flavor.

As for the toppings, apparently you can have as many as you like, all 8 should you feel greedy heh...heh.... I did not know that, so I went for only two - green onion and furikake.

At RM19.90, I felt that the portion was a bit on the small side. My stomach is very sure of that because I had to top up with some jeruk mangga from MBG when I passed by Starling hah..hah... But of course, I have a big tank. Other people may find the portion to be just nice or even generous.

I came back again of course because I love poke bowl. A plus point for Kahuna Poke is that you get complimentary water here. Just help yourself at the counter.

The music that they play here is Hawaiian, true to the Hawaiian theme.

On my second visit, I had seasonal greens with salmon, edamame, chuka wakame (seaweed salad), ikura (salmon roe)  and cherry tomatoes with miso sesame flavor.

For topping it was seaweed flakes, ebiko (shrimp roe) and furikake. It was on this visit that I learnt that you can tick all the toppings.

On my latest visit, I gave in to my rice lust and got me the Kahuna nori rice, tuna, red cabbage, chuka wakame, ikura,  red radish, salmon skin crisp (add on). I stuck back with the signature shoyu flavor which I liked.

As for topping, I ticked everything except tenkasu (tempura crunch) and chia seeds. With tuna and an add on, this cost me more of course at RM25.90.

I hope that Kahuna Poke does well and stays for a long time. I had just walked past a Korean fried chicken place which is located along Public Bank and they have folded up in less than a year. The food business is very tough indeed.

  1. Eh previously at fish bowl, you didn't eat those with salmon? I will go for the tempeh but my lunch group thinks this food is too expensive. For this price, they prefer to go for set lunch at Morganfield or other places with drinks and desserts included in the set.

    1. I did. It is pricey but can't be helped as salmon/tuna are expensive and rental is a killer. That's why I can't go everyday hee..hee...

  4. Poke bowls are getting more expensive these days. I agree with you that some portions are too small. Even I can't be filled up with only one poke bowl.
