I am cutting back on carbs and that day, I did not prepare my lunch. Actually I did prepare four day's worth of lunch but it was so good that one evening I took one portion for dinner heh...heh....
Where can I low carb? Then I remembered this place. I can have roast chicken with low carb sides.
I ordered 1/4 chicken with three sides - coleslaw, mixed salad and roasted vegetables.
For drinks, my usual iced Americano.
Eh, what happened to my third side, the roasted vegetables? Shortly, two slices of garlic bread was served and that sort of threw me off. Did I order that?
In a split second, the server came and informed me that "this is wrong" and took away the garlic bread. I did not manage to snap a pic of the garlic bread.
Then the roasted vegetables was served.
I'm afraid the roasted chicken was not fresh. From the texture, I bet it already spent a day in the fridge. I know because I have eaten leftover roasted chicken before.
There was a generous sprinkling of Parmesan cheese (arghhh!!!) on the salad. Luckily it was not of the very smelly kind.
The roasted vegetables consisted mainly of carrots. The purple sweet potatoes were hard and bitter.
This is my second visit to this place and my first visit was less than impressive which I attributed to teething issues.
Based on my first and second visit, I'm not coming back.
PH kan pandai masak..
ReplyDeleteLagi baik masak sendiri..
Kalau restoran tu membuat PH sedih dgn masakannya..
heh..heh... thank you, CH. Seronok PH kena puji, kembang hidung LOL!
DeleteI agree that the roast chicken that you cooked looks so much better. Perhaps roast chicken is not the dish to order at this place. I have only eaten fish and chips, beef pies, sausages, lasagna, lamb chops at other branches but not this exact outlet. That day I passed this outlet in Starling and the menu does not look that familiar to me so maybe they did change it. One day if my lunch group decides to eat here then I will eat here but not by myself since you ban it already.
ReplyDeleteI felt disappointed with the quality of the food. What a let down :(
DeleteYou are definitely a good chef and could tell instantly when the chicken had stayed overnight in the resturant's morgue! LOL Bwahahaha The skin's texture could tell all.
ReplyDeleteI often encountered restaurants serving wrong orders to our table and took them away later. There was 3-4 occasions when we had eaten the delicious food halfway, unknowingly before being taken away. The waiter probably had to throw away the half eaten dish or took back to the kitchen to tidy up before serving as new.
Morgue! LOL! I also experienced wrong dishes being served but luckily so far have not eaten the mistake.
DeleteI dunno if the chicken is fresh or not until I took a bite of it. But from ur picture, it seems like dry and hard, so that's it....I will not go there too.
ReplyDeleteIt was soft and for sure from taste and texture it was yesterday's chicken.
DeleteWhen you say "already spent a day in the fridge", I don't know if you meant the raw chicken was in the fridge for over a day or the cooked chicken was a leftover and spent a day in the fridge. If it was the former, I've had raw chicken left sitting (and marinating) in the fridge for a day before I cooked it and it was fine. But if was the latter, then they have no business reheating a leftover chicken for you. Like you, I've eaten leftover chicken too but that's because I purposely made extras so that I could have some roasted chicken meat with my salad the next day. Of course, it won't be as juicy like the day before. The one here does look dry and shrivelled. What a shame, Dave Deli was once well-known for its roast chicken back in the day (I've not eaten theirs for years, especially not since their comeback)! :(
ReplyDeleteI meant the cooked chicken. Eating leftovers at home is fine but not at the restaurant. It's quite appalling that they think they can get away with this sort of thing >.<
DeleteI can't stand it when they mess up orders like that. Shouldn't be in the food business if they can't get it right...especially when the meals are by no means cheap.
ReplyDeleteExactly! The service industry needs to buck up.
DeleteWell that sounds like sound advice to me! ;-)
ReplyDeletehah..hah...
Deleteoh oh.. that means one off your list. I have been to one cafe before where the roasted chicken was not well cooked, I complained, they took it back, microwaved it, I guessed and it was still not well cooked and tasteless.. after that, no more turning back. Very disappointing...
ReplyDeleteServing not well cooked chicken is a no no! Yup, better don't go back.
DeleteThe roasted chicken wasn't fresh? Geez. I don't like overnight meat.
ReplyDeleteBetter roast ourselves, you are right.
Very disappointing lah. Pay money and get overnight food.
DeleteIf in my workplace, if like what Claire mention, complain, the food will be throw away...
ReplyDeleteCustomers are unhappy if food is no good..
DeleteYou were gracious to give this place a 2nd chance. But again you were disappointed and I am sure other customers could be feeling the same too. Not good for their reputation to serve food kept overnight in the fridge.
ReplyDeleteI see that there is less crowd now. They better improve!
DeleteLooks good, pity the chicken wasn't fresh.
ReplyDeleteYeah what a pity since it's a newly opened restaurant.
DeleteI am sure the chicken you roast would look and taste much better than theirs, no wonder you say want roast chicken, roast it yourself LOL
ReplyDeleteLOL! I am blowing my own trumpet :D
DeleteHow can they ruin their reputation by serving customer a bad tasting roasted chicken which is their signature item >_<
ReplyDeleteI am astounded too!
