Judy's@A Foodie's Nest : I Can't Believe I Like This Green Stuff (CLOSED)

I have always been curious about Lei Cha but did not have the courage to try it because I was afraid that I would dislike the taste. The thought of drinking a greenish herbal concoction freaked me out a little.

But boy, was I wrong. My opportunity came on an outing with my brother (after another movie, this time Equalizer 2) at A Foodie's Nest@The Starling

I read about Judy's Lei Cha from The Star and I made a note to check it out. Since I had been overindulging in Champ's Chee Yok Fun heh..heh... I decided to do penance by eating something with lots of vegetable and herbs, hence me taking my virgin Lei Cha plunge.

I approached the stall and took a look at the menu.

Oohh...they have stewed pork.... but no, Lei Cha it is with brown rice.

So there you go.

A bowl of rice with chopped vegetables and peanuts.

And a bowl of scary green soup.

Okie... I took a tentative sip. Hey! This is good. Another sip. So good!

So I mixed up the rice and veggies and ate them with spoonfuls of the green soup. Wow. It's really good. The flavors of the minty soup, the veggies, peanuts and rice came together so well.

I guess I am now a fan of Lei Cha.

  1. I heard from my sis that mostly those sold over there are sweeter. Maybe to cater to local for those couldn't take bitterness.

Lei cha soup originally is bitter in nature from all those green.

Glad you enjoy it. Next round you come over to Kuching, you must try the origin Hakka lei cha. ^^

    1. I was expecting the bitter taste but there was none. Actually, now that I know it tastes good, I would not mind any bitter taste.

  2. Lei cha is one of my favourite dishes. I particularly like it served with brown or multigrain rice.

  3. Minty? It's supposed to be bitter - all the herbs that are good for health that go into the making of the soup are bitter. I guess this is meant for the masses, eating for pleasure/enjoyment and not to detox. I tried once...and twice...and I decided I had had enough...for life! LOL!!!

  4. I am surprised that it took you so many years to start eating this famous dish.
I love them and you can get very good & cheap one at the food court inside Centrepoint.
This one is better than Starling's. I would normally pour the whole green soup into the bowl of rice and stir them like porridge for aliens. So yummy and keeps our cells very healthy!
