Kam Kee Cafe

I wanted to try Kam Kee Cafe @ The Starling for the longest time but somehow they are always crowded whenever I got there. It seems to be a rather popular place for the breakfast and brunch crowd.

These days with the number of Covid-19 infections soaring above 20,000 plus cases daily, I am adopting a very cautious approach. I have stopped dining out. I refer to either tapau or order delivery.

So last Saturday I decided to order via Grabfood self-pick up to take advantage of the PICKUP20 discount. 

I have not been going out much to the mall (primarily due to my bad back which has since recovered after 6 weeks) and noted some new developments.


The space vacated by Nicsmann By Lewre has been taken up.


By Hou Yum Duck. Anyone heard of this restaurant?


Eh? Or is the name Dim Dou Duck? Renovations are still work in progress.

I made my way to Kam Kee Cafe to pick up my orders. Since I was buying lunch, I might as well pick up something for dinner too. I got me the Sweet & Sour Pork with Pineapple Rice and Hong Kong Fried Hor Fun with Beef Slices.

Back at the office I had the sweet & sour pork for lunch.


I know it looks pathetic (in terms of presentation and portion size) but it was actually quite good though they could be a bit more generous with the amount of meat. The sweet & sour sauce had a good balance of sweet, sour and (not too) salty. Yup, definitely can get it much cheaper with bigger portions at the chap fan stall. Obviously. 

Later in the day, I had my early dinner (since my partner and I have stopped dining out).


Fried koay teow/hor fun is always my favorite when it comes to fried noodles. This came with chili oil.


Although I ate the beef hor fun cold, it still tasted really good. And before I asked "where is the beef?", I found that they were all underneath the noodles.


Lots of tender beef slices and I enjoyed this Hong Kong Fried Hor Fun with Beef Slices to the max. The last time I had this dish was at Ming Chai Kee.

No doubt it was pricey, but hey, you want cheap you sendiri masak lah! Which brings us to my rather sad attempt at fried beef noodles.


This was because I wanted to finally open the packet of konjac noodles that I bought on a whim last year. More on that later on.

Lunch some days ago was again from The Naked Lunchbox.


8 Herb Roast Chicken & Spanish Style Tomato Rice


There were pine nuts, mushrooms and raisins in the rice which was quite strong with tomato paste. So if you dislike tomato paste, you won't like this rice. The chicken was moist and tasted quite good in spite of looking so pale.


And...heh..heh..heh... a RM10.00 box of durians. At RM10.00 cannot complain about the durians. Just eat and shut up. Hah!

  1. Good grief! 20,000 plus cases daily!!! That's for the whole of Selangor, right? I wonder if you get specific figures for specific areas like we do here - Kuching is over 100 every day, Sibu ranges around 50 and above. ..and that can be considered as a lot already, this little town!!!

    Any place where there is a lot of people, I would just go elsewhere. Nothing is THAT nice - I wouldn't want to take the risk!!!

    I don't think durian is in season here but I had tempoyak the other day - post in my blog coming right up!!!

    1. Nope, that's the statistics for the whole country. LOL! I had loads of good durians last year (there were lots of discounts) and I ate enough for a few years hah..hah..

  2. Wah, got durians already ah!? πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹Now I am very tempted to eat durians. Still remember I bought durians delivery last year n spent quite an amount on branded durians, lolx! I m also very tempted by the beef kway teow because most of the time the beef is not tender enough so when u say it is tender then should be very tasty. Are you going to write more about your beef konjac noodles?

    1. Me too, I spent quite a bit on durians last year since there were so many offers going on. Now I don't need to eat durians but RM10 a box was tempting though honestly, it was not good. Yes, I'll write about the konjac noodles.

  3. The roast chicken looked yummy. Durian?? Oh no. Haha. We had a pack in freezer but luckily finished off. I can't stand the smell

  4. wah RM10 durians is so so cheap! but yea, can't complaint about the taste...The sweet & sour pork is so pathetic looking....so small portion!

  5. I think the number of cases could be very much higher than reported. I miss beef noodle. The best beef noodle that I know is in Bercham and its quite far from my place. For RM10 durian, just eat and don't complain. Lol! So far, no sign of durian in my area.

    1. You are right. I reckon there are many cases which were not part of the statistics. I don't think I will buy anymore durians as I had a lot last year to last many years LOL!

  6. Oh, your beef hor fun got a lot more beef slices than the one I ordered through delivery. If there's one thing I try to refrain from cooking at home...it's fried noodles coz can't get the wok hei like the stalls/restaurants can and wok hei is integral to a good plate of fried noodles for me.

  7. There's a Dim Dou Duck outlet (1st outlet I think) at Desa Park City, specializes in duck cuisines and from the name Hou Yum Duck, it's their sister restaurant which serve duck + alcohol drink.
    One of my favourite orders at HK Cha Chan Teng is Stir Fried Beef Hor Fun, oily but yum, can't resist, haha :P

  8. My wife always ordered from Kam Kee Cafe and I had to help her finish them I am DBKL.

    What a sad thing that even Nicsmann by Lewre could close down. They had the grandest opening ever at Starling and I remember the Sultanah came to cut ribbons with all the who's & who in their bling bling attires attended. Nothing is forever in this life and this pandemic is testing everyone's karma.

    I had ever eaten fried hor fun with beef. I will remember to look out for this dish soon.

    2. Your wife must be a small eater then, not like this Ah Hong Chee with big capacity tangki LOL! Nicsmann by Lewre used to hold lots of corporate functions. Many restaurants at Starling including the foodcourt were killed off by the pandemic.

      You must try Kam Kee's fried hor fun with beef. It's good!
