Nasi Kerabu Golok, Kampung Lindungan and Anita Mui

Via Grabfood of course. I reckon there are many eateries with the moniker "Nasi Kerabu Golok" because I did a Google search and found many but none on the one at Kampung Lindungan

I opted for the full monty - with chicken and beef, the so called Nasi Kerabu Full Set.

It came with ayam goreng berempah, daging bakar, solok lada, half a salted duck egg, keropok, thinly sliced cabbage/herbs, sambal tumis and blue colored rice.

It fell short of my expectations because the sambal tumis was very diluted and did not contribute much to the overall taste. The lack of aromatic herbs (like daun kesum, daun kemangi and bunga kantan) and raw vegetables also contributed to the lack of ooomph!

On a positive note, I enjoyed the ayam goreng berempah (the shop accommodated my request for chicken thigh) and solok lada. There was too little of the daging bakar for me to form an opinion.

Girl refused to leave the house this morning. I reckon she was spooked by the very loud (and super annoying) firecrackers that blasted off past midnight. I know it's our Chinese tradition and all (today being the 9th day of Chinese New Year) but I feel that firecrackers should be banned at housing areas. It is a real nuisance, waking people up in the middle of the night and causing distress. I for one could not fall back to sleep!

Last year, I was very brave and went to the movies. GSC had taken over MBO at The Starling and I could not resist going to the theater again. I watched Anita.

I am not exactly a fan but the late Anita Mui was so iconic that I paid attention. When I was in school, an Indian friend commented that although she does not understand Cantonese, she watches all the Anita Mui concerts for the costumes and actions.

This particular figurine from Anita's last concert before she passed came across as a bit eerie to me.

Last year, during one of our grocery trips, I extorted my partner for a big bar KitKat chocolate hah..hah..hah...

It looked irresistible - Dark Cocoa from Ecuador & Cote D'Ivoire (basically Ivory Coast) and all.

It said "Peel Open, Share & Re-Close". Where got such thing? I mean the "share" part.

Madam sapu all. It was just OK, not as exciting as I had envisioned. I mean, I enjoy dark chocolate, maybe not in KitKat. Or rather KitKat not ngam with dark chocolate. My humble opinion of course.

These are Petunias from my Sunday morning walk with my partner at Taman Botani. We had to stop going after my unfortunate situation with the herniated/slipped disc. I am still recovering and cannot do any exercise. Haiz.........

  2. I miss nasi kerabu. It looks good but too bad it didn't meet up to your expectation. I too was disturbed by the firecrackers and the noise coming from my neighbours across the road. They kept me awake till past 2am this morning and I am still groggy from lack of sleep. Anita Mui is well known for her performance costumes. I like dark chocolate but haven't tried the KitKat dark chocolate. Beautiful petunias from your walk. Wish you speedy recovery from your slipped disc.

    1. I am still in search for a better nasi kerabu, though Hayaki near my office is the one I like so far. I love looking at petunia from hanging baskets and I know that I am not able to maintain them in my garden.

  3. Kit Kat? I've a post on Kit Kat coming up real soon, day after tomorrow. Keep you in suspense, no hint as to what it is all about. LOL!!!
I guess I'm no fan of Anita Mui so if it is showing here...or online, I shall not bother about it.
Have not had nasi kerabu for so long now. They tell me there is a very good one, people from Kelantan...but that is 10 miles away. So far, by our Sibu standard. See lah! If I get desperate enough I'll drive all the way to buy and give it a try.

    2. Rest more. Fingers crossed that your back feels better soon. I reckon that nasi Kerabu Golok is a common name and many shops sell it. Solok Lada sounds tasty. Hope you find a nasi Kerabu Golok that meets your expectations in the future. ah, Girl is so smart, not to go out. Inside the house is so nice and comfy. Just stay indoors la.

  4. I have been eating the Nasi Kerabu at Starling's Foodies level. I would add the eggplant sambal as side orders. So Yuma.

I do admire Anita's songs all my life. However her scandals cannot be erased from my mind. That dress with long train was a beautiful masterpiece of her last concerts. She knew she was leaving as she walked up the grand staircase.

  5. I ate Nasi Kerabu Golok once but i don't like the taste of daun kesum inside the nasi. I prefer the Kelantan version (if I'm right), which doesn't include daun kesum.
After woke up for about 15-20 minutes because of the firecrackers, I managed to sleep until my alarm wake me up at 5 :D

    1. I happen to love daub kesum and like to put a lot of it when I make kerabu. I managed to fall asleep around 4am and woke up at 6am. And still felt so groggy!

  6. Kit Kat is rather sweet. I guess they try to cater to other customers who prefer dark chocolate.

Not a fan of Anita's songs but I quite like her acting.

  7. Ah girl is always so manja, so cute lah. Oh the rice looks so blue, don't think I will eat it. Not really a fan of Anita mui so don't know much of her stories. But I heard she was actually in love with Andy Lau. Rest well and speedy recovery. Btw, I had sent you an email.

  9. The blue hue of the nasi a bit artificial, or the colour of the photo is different with the real thing?
Actually I like the noise of the firecrackers and fireworks during CNY, as these heighten the CNY vibe. :P

    1. The blue color was like that and obviously it is artificial. I don't mind firecrackers as long as it is fired off when I am not asleep. LOL!
