After enjoying food deliveries to the max (and discounts) prior to the Chinese New Year, I did mention that I got tired of restaurant food. True that it is so convenient and requiring so little effort (just some scrolling of the phone hah..hah...), after a while it does get tiresome.
Sometimes, waiting for the delivery can be quite annoying. I had an recent experience where the driver, though seen on tracking was very near my place, made me wait for 45 minutes plus.
Then I got a message that my food was delivered when there was not a soul at my gate. After waiting for a decent time, I contacted Grab and 15 minutes later, the man showed up, smiling and nervously wishing me happy new year. I was so annoyed that I cancelled his tip.
So this festive period, though I could order food and just chill out, I decided to cook. Simple cooking of course.
Then I put the mushroom rendang that I had stashed in the freezer to good use. It was just a matter of defrosting and reheating and cooking some brown rice. And then adding some pre-washed salad leaves.
Maybe, tomorrow I will Grabfood one meal hah..hah..hah... It's best to strike a balance of home cooked and delivery. What say you?
You would not believe what happened here!!! My friend in KL ordered a lot of dishes for her mum here in Sibu from Payung but they could not get Grab or Food Panda or whoever to deliver, Chinese New Year's Eve mid-afternoon - all off on holiday already, maybe. Luckily I went to collect my orders so I offered to deliver to my friend's mum for them - they refunded the delivery charges.
ReplyDeleteNever ordered food delivery, sounds like it can be quite stressful at times.
Good thing that you were there and bless you for doing the delivery! I have had an order cancelled before when the restaurant could not get any riders. So frustrating!
DeleteI also got some smoked bacon to make big breakfast. I've heard of two incidences with GrabFood of their delivery riders sending the food to the wrong address (from my taman's residents group when they posted if someone ordered food that was wrongly delivered to their house). In the end, they got their refunds and those food were given to the guards...lol
ReplyDeleteI once had a GrabExpress rider come to my house and insisting that the delivery was for me. I refused to accept and asked him to call the sender. And sure enough it wasn't for me. LOL!
DeleteA balance of home cooked and food delivery sounds good. Your big breakfast and mushroom rendang look beautiful and delicious. So far, I haven't tried food delivery.
ReplyDeleteAfter trying food delivery, I found out that it is not smooth sailing all the time. I have had orders cancelled and it can be very disappointing and frustrating.
DeleteWah, your home cooked meal looks like those ordered from juiceria, so professional looking. If you are happy to cook then cook by all means. If you are happy to grabfood, then grabfood it is. Depends on what you feel like doing.
ReplyDeleteI decided to finish off the food I cooked first though I was tempted to order. Let's see how I feel tomorrow hee..hee...
Deleteur 'sendirifood' looks much better than the restaurant lah....ada 'class'! Yea, waiting for deliveryman is annoying...Jst a few days back, the Foodpanda delivery guy asking me on my house number when it is stated clearly in the app. I wanna replied back sarcastically to him, but then better hold back....coz u dunno what he will do to the food...LOL!
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you! LOL! I have the same experience for delivery at my office. Even when I tell them the landmark, some of them can't find me.
DeleteI was craving for big breakfast on second day of CNY but run out of sausage and veggies/mushrooms. :(
ReplyDeleteWell, it is time to stock up! hee..hee..
