It was raining cats and dogs and more last Friday and Saturday. As you know by now, many areas in Selangor and other states experienced devastating floods and I count myself fortunate not to be affected.
I was at work on Friday and left early. I was lucky that it was only drizzling on my way home and a little later after that it started pouring.
When I got up on Saturday, it was still raining and the intensity of the rain waxed and waned and got really heavy mid morning. I was expecting two deliveries that day (one arrived while the other was postponed to Sunday).
Before my partner left for work, I packed him lunch. Then I proceeded to get my housework done, all the while worrying if my deliveries would arrive. Then slightly past 1:00pm, these arrived in the midst of the rain - my rainy rendang.
I couldn't put my usual box outside the gate and ran out with this basket to receive the delivery. I salute the delivery guy for doing his job in the heavy downpour.
These are mushroom rendang, my second time ordering from mushroomlah.com. I had been wanting to try this vegan rendang for some time now but was unable to because they only deliver Saturdays. Back then, I had to visit my parents on Saturdays and could not be around to take delivery.
My first order was a week prior and I was so impressed with the rendang that I had to order more. The rendang is freshly cooked and delivered on Saturdays and you can pre-order days ahead from the website.
The freshly cooked rendang can only be delivered in the Klang Valley but fret not because there is also another version - the Travel Pack which can be purchased directly from mushroomlah.com or via Shoppee.
Look at that. You would be forgiven for thinking that it is beef rendang had you not been told that it is actually mushrooms! I packed some rendang (from the earlier batch) for my partner's lunch and when he came home, he asked me "Was that beef?" hah..hah... Of course not I told him. How can I feed you beef when you don't eat beef?
I made a comparison between the Travel Pack...
Both are quite close in taste but I feel that the freshly cooked mushroom rendang has a slight edge over the Travel Pack.
I am a fan of this mushroom rendang because the taste is really fantastic, as what an awesome rendang (there are many versions of rendang of course) should taste and best of all, I am not even bothered that it is cooked with mushrooms and not meat. This is great for those days when I want to go meat-free.
I have been enjoying this mushroom rendang and I highly recommend it (no, I am not paid to promote this product hah..hah...).
Give me the travel pack! I shall not complain. LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness you have been spared from that horrendous flood! So so so terrible, really so very bad!!! Pity all those affected, hopefully, they will be able to cope...somehow!!!
I don't trust the dijamin sampai hari esok, so you have to Shoppee yourself LOL!
DeleteThe handling of the flood situation was very lacking. Haiz!
Looked nice ...salivating. Never had mushroom rendang before. Something like a vegetarian rendang, isn't it??
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a vegetarian rendang which is superbly good.
DeleteOk, I will buy this mushroom rendang to try. Thanks for the recommendation. Did both girls stay indoors the whole day for the days that rained the whole day?
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy the mushroom rendang. Yes, the two of them gwai gwai stay at home the whole two days. LOL!
Deletethe mushroom rendang really deceiving! i would have thought it is beef rendang too!
ReplyDeleteEven the texture is deceiving but you might notice that there is no beefy aroma.
DeleteYes, very deceiving. I thought it was beef rendang. Mushroom rendang looks good and should be good.
ReplyDeleteIt is so good that going meat-free is painless LOL!
DeleteI don't doubt that it tastes like a real rendang from the looks of it. After all, mushrooms are known to taste meaty and earthy...and have been widely used as a protein substitute (besides tofu products) in many vegetarian dishes. Don't know how they managed to get that shred-like effect to mimic rendang! If I'm a vegetarian, I suppose I should be very thankful for this version though I can't say it's less calories or healthy seeing that it contains probably about the same amount of oil used to cook a typical rendang...lol. Based on the price though, I think I'd rather have the real deal (with meat!) though I'm very curious about the taste. ^_~
ReplyDeleteNo doubt it is still fattening with all that oil (which is crucial for a good rendang) but perhaps a tad healthier absent red meat. I am trying to go meat free at least once a week to give my digestive system a break and this rendang comes in very handy. It is interesting to note that vegetarian dishes can be just as pricey or pricier than the real thing!
DeleteWow... right, if you didn't mention, I would have thought it was rendang beef... yes, rendang goes with rice is never wrong.. really look very appetizing!! Good to hear your area is not affected by the rain... it was really bad from the video clips I received every now and then...
ReplyDeleteThe flood was really bad. I watched a clip where only the rooftop of the petrol station and bus stop can be seen! Scary!
DeleteI totally believe that the mushroom rendang tastes very much similar with the real deal as your hubby also thought it was beef.
ReplyDeleteThe bite and mouthfeel is very convincing though as a beef eater one will notice, eh, why no beef smell? LOL!
DeleteVery fortunate to have not been effected by the floods. Don't know what more to do to help other than keep donating what's needed.
