Lockdown Day #5 : Samyang Buldak Cheese

Yesterday my fresh stash of chocolate arrived via Pos Laju (which by the way is not very laju). With online shopping being the norm these days especially so during the pandemic, I have discovered so many things I can get online.

Which can be a good and also a not so good thing. I find that I tend to get carried away but most of my purchases have been good and useful ones, maybe except for the chocolate and snacky indulgences.

So talking about the chocolate which is this thing here (I got it via Lazada from Beehive Chocolate),

the supplier included a free gift for me which was this Samyang Buldak Cheese Hot Chicken Ramen.

I do wish they had given me something chocolate related because I am not doing any of this buldak thing especially after my buldak experience here.

These were the two seasonings which I threw away.

You are supposed to boil the noodles in 600 ml of water for 5 minutes and then discard some of the water before adding the seasonings.

I had cooked a fresh batch of kimchi jigae and I added the noodles to make my meal.

I boiled the noodles for about 3 minutes and they were firm and springy. Nice.

And guess what? My partner has now accepted kimchi jigae.

This is his portion, cooked with millet noodles or something like that. He also added some firm tofu.

My very happy customer.

Speaking of happy customers, my cats are also accepting their lot when it comes to food.

Belle Belle is the less fussy one.

She almost finished up. I use a spoon to gather the remnants and encourage her to clean her bowl which she did.

Girl is the fussy pot. She eats but does not finish.

But she eventually comes back. Unlike Belle Belle, Girl eats her food slowly. She eats, stops, comes back, eats and repeat.

Remember Kedai Kopi Malaya? Apparently they have moved and vacated this shoplot.

I won't miss them.

Today I dabbled in something.

This.

heh..heh..heh...

This was from an earlier attempt, no doubt inspired by Potaboy. That first attempt was a disaster but the balls were still edible.

Today's attempt is an improvement although my orange sweet potato balls were all wrinkly and deflated.

The purple ones fared much better and knowing me, there will be a reattempt to perfect it. We shall see!

  1. Apa lah your Penang lahling took soooo long to accept Kimchi Jigae. Please tell me that I loved them since early 90s. Maybe he needs to scape his tongue and floss gigi. Muahahahaha... I was stunned that you threw away all the seasonings.

Well done. Your potato balls looked very beautiful like a basket of fruits. Can I eat some???

    1. hah..hah... my lahling's tastebuds are quite limited but I am glad he tried the kimchi jiage and liked it.

Your wife should be able to make beautiful sweet potato balls for you to eat!

  2. I remember that Kedai Kopi M too. Just went there once and last. Now moved to a posh place? The owner is probably a member and the rents in clubs are always very dirt cheap. No kidding.

  3. Wahhhhhh!!! Your dahling licked the bowl clean! Your cooking must be so good. Your sweet potato balls look perfect enough already, can sell online dy!

The ladies in the house will buy all kinds of Korean noodles but no, I have not seen this one yet. So far, I liked Koreno clams flavour (tastes like seafood chowder) and also the beef, just these two.

    1. There are so many brands of instant noodles now that one is spoilt for choice. I have not tried any, sticking faithfully to Maggi. LOL!

  4. Anyone who opens their mind and eat more kimchi daily will soon acquire a taste for them. Good that your partner eats them now. That is a given since your kimchi jigae tastes so good from the looks of them. I also don't use the seasoning packets provided. So cute the bowl holders with cats ears. Good that both your furkids have accepted their food. Wow! Your potato balls look delicious. I saw a similar van that day but I didn't buy their potato balls because there was a q. Yours look delicious. I used to eat the usual potatoes balls from iluvu youtiao stall but they are not the same as the ones you described in your other post. The natural orange and purple colours look so pretty. Must taste good too.

  5. Wow, your purple sweet potato balls look perfect! But what happened to your orange ones...were they made from the same dough? If they were, I wouldn't be able to make out what went wrong. Making desserts or pastries is like making cakes...very temperamental...sometimes they come out great but sometimes they fail to rise, too dense, too wet, too oily (buttery), etc., even when every ingredient is measured. >_< That's why I don't do desserts...lol! P/S: But I'd gladly eat them both irrespective if someone makes them for me. Next time you should also show us a pic of the inside of the ball (to see how hollow they are), then we'd be able to tell if you nail them perfectly...hah..hah. For now, it's perfect...on the outside! ;)

Someone gave me some packets of Korean noodles recently (and by that I mean real Korean noodles as everything is written in Korean, no English words whatsoever). I've tasted one of them which turned out very nice. Perhaps I'll show it to you in one of my posts later...we'll see.

My, my, Girl sure is choosy about her food. What you've shown is the more premium food (not Whiskas) and she still takes her time to finish (if it was the less preimum Whiskas, she may take even longer?). Cookie will finish that in no time and all at once. For a cat to not finish their food in one go means they're not hungry (cats are predominantly greedy when it comes to food, they can't resist unless they're full). You could be feeding her too much kibbles in between (until she's not hungry). Of course, there are cats who prefer dry food to wet and vice versa (although most would gobble up wet). If that is the case, withdraw one of her wet meals and see if she eats ferociously at the next feeding, then you'll know if she has been fed too much.

    1. Thank you! Thank you! You are quite right about desserts. The same recipe can yield different results. After my second attempt, I can say that the orange sweet potato dough was too moist. I would have to adjust and add more flour in future. If you have read my next post, you can see that mine were not hollow hah..hah..

Oh, do blog about the nice Korean instant noodles. I have never bought any and there are so many brands of instant noodles.

Girl has always been a slow eater, taking her own sweet time to finish her food (one of my cousins is like that and my grandma used to tell him off LOL!). OK, perhaps I should refrain from giving her kibble after her main meal. She has a habit of asking for more food and this mommy simply can't say no.

  7. Saturday was not a good day for me as I did not get enough sleep, feel so lethargic the whole day. I went to my neighbourhood library to read books and after that dabao KFC to eat.

    1. Sleep is so important. Sometimes I can't sleep because I had extra mug of coffee too late in the day.
