This is the last batch of prawns in my freezer. And guess what? I found a few packets of bacon heh...heh...heh...
I did think of sambal prawns or those rempah-rempah stuff but I was in no mood to pound or blend any sambal. I really, really, should get back to the habit of making ready blended sambal to freeze. I used to do that during my pre-blogging days and it looks like I have just gotten lazy over the years.
Since I had bacon, I thought of either a pasta or salad. Between pasta and salad, pasta wins hands down in my house. I mean who doesn't love pasta, right? Especially with bacon and prawns.
It would be a very nice change from the usual steamed food and soups that I have been having. Although I must admit that last night's kimchi jigae (I know some of you are rolling your eyes) was superb because my kimchi was super ripe.
To make kimchi jigae, in particular a very tasty one, you need your kimchi to be very fermented for that extra tang and flavor.
I added a packet of jiaozi that I ordered from Sanbanto. Maybe one day I should blog about the oinks that I buy from Sanbanto. The first time I had jiaozi was at Mr Wu and I complained that the skin is too thick.
After having Sanbanto's, confirm lah that jiaozi is supposed to have thick skin. So it is not my favorite dumpling although the filling for this one is very good.
So today I spent my time in the kitchen peeling and deveining the prawns. The thing about prawns is that once they are peeled, you realize that you haven't got all that much prawns.
I started by frying the bacon and once it was browned and crispy I removed them from the pan. Next in went the prawns and by this time I already had the pasta boiling.
The cooked prawns were removed to make way for garlic which I fried until lightly browned. The pasta was done and transferred into the pan for a quick stir fry and then I added salt, pepper and the bacon and prawns.
My two girls are now good buddies. Every morning when I let Belle Belle out of the cage, Ah Girl will approach and the two will kissy poo each other before making noise to demand for their breakfast.
Belle Belle recently loves to hide under that chair. But by 7 pm, she has to go into her cage. Mommy's rules.
You can say that again - Nyum! Nyum! and again - Nyum! Nyum!!! It sure looks so good. Can't go wrong with prawns...plus bacon is my weakness. Excuse me! I'm drooling all over! SLURPSSSSS!!!! LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Bacon makes everything taste better.
DeleteThe best combo!!! Double thumbs up!!!
ReplyDeleteI cooked pasta with bacons not long ago. Using angel's hair.
I have also had bacon with angel hair pasta. It was so so nice.
DeleteOnly one person will roll eyes la. TM would know who, hahahaha lolx! I love your kimchi cos the more fermented they are the more tastier they are. Like got a bit of ethanol in it cos fermentation will cause alcohol to appear which I love the taste! Your prawns pasta is to die for. Bacon is ok la, not a must for me. You mean your partner won't get to eat this super delicious prawns bacon pasta ah? Really missing out wor if he doesn't get to eat it.
ReplyDeleteWah! So hard core you like the taste of very fermented kimchi. The smell can travel from the kitchen right up to the living room. LOL!
DeleteJiao Zi in Beijing is supposed to be a complete meal so the thick skin is like a bowl of pan Mee noodles to keep the people full in the cold winter. Ah, since u say got thick thick skin then I must try. Thanks for the recommendation.
ReplyDeleteI see! You will love it if you enjoy thick skin dumplings. The filling has lots of chives.
DeleteGood to know that both your furkids are good friends now. So cute both of them pakat to ask for food and ask to go out. Just curious and I hope you won't think I am rude by asking this - since Belle Belle ear infection is ok now and she is friends with Girl now, y still need to stay in that small cage until morning 4 am or 3 am? Just curious only. Cos I duwan any accidents u may need to clean if Belle Belle suddenly drinks or eats too much n Lai si or Lai niew in the cage since no litter box inside. Touch wood la of course, that won't happen.
ReplyDeleteBelle Belle is very mischievous, so I don't want her messing around with my things (like pulling out books form the bookshelf) at night. So far, touch wood, no accidents.
DeleteWow...with so much liew/ingredients, I also cannot wait to eat more!! Makes pasta look so yummy!
ReplyDeleteMore liew. more sedap!
DeleteThe prawns your brother gifted you looks very fresh and tasty...which is a far cry from the recent ones I got from Vfresh. He didn't have stock for sea prawns (which I've ordered before) and asked me to try the IQF white prawns...and the meat turned out so mushy (RM40 a kg some more...haiz). What is IQF white prawns anyway? (Don't get them). I thought they'd be whitish shells but they turned out to be greyish (like those sold in Aeon which I usually avoid).
ReplyDeleteThat's one reason why I don't like jiaozi...because of the thick skin especially if it's the soup version, the skin becomes doughy and mushy. If pan fried (like those in Esquire Kitchen) at least that is more palatable.
Great to see your two kids becoming GFFs. Now can pakat to demand for food and to go kai kai...one voice is better (like how the cast of Friends gang up to demand for pay rise)...kekeke! ;)
Oh I forgot to mention....I just made a batch of blended sambal (like you said) to freeze...so convenient. I've used one tub to cook prawns and one for stir-fried potato leaves (and there's more still in the freezer...yay!). You must get back to making your stash too. ^_~
DeleteI found out that IQF is a seafood supplier. Oh dear, the stock you got must have been kept for a long time for it to become mushy.
DeleteNo more jiaozi for me >.< I do love Sanbanto's Pork and Prawn Sui Gao.
Yes, they really became fast friends though it took a long time. Now they can gang up against mommy. Haiz...LOL!
Ah! I was supposed to make sambal today but I got caught up with other things. There is always tomorrow. LOL!
DeleteYour pasta sure looks delicious and I admit that it makes me drool too. Hubby is not a pasta person, so I don't make pasta. Belle and Girl have become close sisters and pakat pakat together. Lol!
ReplyDeleteI see that your hubby prefers local noodles and not Italian noodles. LOL! I'm glad my two girls are now best buddies.
DeletePakat to go out together lol!!! I have not acquired the taste of bacon as I find them a bit hard to chew. But still your pasta looks yummy. I don't mind pasta sometimes, apart from my favourite rice. Same here, I do not like jiao Zi with thick skin as they taste very doughy.
ReplyDeleteThey now got gang. LOL! My late grandma also did not like bacon although she said it smelled nice.
DeleteI wonder is Belle really know the rule of going into her cage at 7.00pm or you have to catch and put into the cage?
ReplyDeleteOf course she doesn't know so her mommy has to tangkap and sumbat her into the cage. LOL!
Deletegood to have both girls hang out together (at home & outside)! at least they don't feel bored during this MCO (lockdown days)...LOL!
ReplyDeletehah..hah...yes, got kawan!
DeleteSpicy prawns + bacon, not only great to pair with pasta, I'll add into my salad for a carbo-less meal!
ReplyDeleteYes, yes! That was what I was thinking too but I don't have anymore prawns :(
